Good Tuesday to one and all. We have one more day of awesome weather to go through before a big change to colder for the rest of the week. Will that change include a few flakes for some areas? That has an outside chance of happening and I will show you why in a bit.

Let’s start with the short term weather that continues to rock. Highs today will range from the upper 60s to low 70s under partly sunny skies. A few clouds will increase later in the day ahead of a storm across the plains states.

This storm will head toward the Great Lakes on Wednesday and will drag a cold front across our region. A line of showers and thunderstorms will enter western Kentucky tonight and then work eastward on Wednesday. It should weaken along the way with most areas getting in on some gusty showers as the front passes through.

There is a nice little plunge of cold air working in behind the front for Thursday and Friday and you can see that on the GFS…



Highs in the 40s look good for many areas for both days.

There is an upper level disturbance dropping in from the northwest by Thursday evening into early Friday. This may have enough juice to touch off some scattered precipitation. The GFS Ensembles show the light stuff i’m talking about…



Given the cold air of -6 to -8c at 850mb… whatever falls could mix with some wet snow at times. The operation run of the GFS suggests the mix idea has some legs…



I want to stress that whatever falls would be very light and it’s not a given that you will see anything where you live. It is something for us to keep an eye on over the next few days. Nothing like a pattern going from 70s to possibly producing some flakes a few days later.

The weekend will see temps returning into the 50s for highs with Saturday looking to be the better of the two. Sunday should see some clouds rolling in and these clouds may produce a shower or two. That’s ahead of another storm that forms in the plains and heads toward the lakes early next week. This one looks to track a little farther to the east, giving us a better shot at widespread rains.

Overall, the weather pattern continues to progress toward a rock and roll start to winter later this month into December.
