Good Thursday evening everyone. I have spent much of the afternoon and evening pouring over all the available data I can possibly look at for the weekend into next week and I am starting to get a bit giddy with the amount of potential I am seeing.
While it is only potential right now (as is anything in life until it happens)… the pattern taking shape for next week has a “wow” look to it. The potential for two snows and a possible significant storm to go along with two big blasts of arctic air is certainly getting my attention.
The first threat for snow arrives on the scene late Friday into early Saturday. I still have some questions with this system as we have the models in two camps still. The NAM is farther west with the precipitation while the GFS is farther east and a bit colder giving a mainly light snow signal.
It appears a mix of light rain and light snow develops from south to north Friday afternoon and evening. Areas across the far southeast should see mainly rain to start with areas in the north mainly light snow. Colder air moves in Friday night and Saturday morning switching most over to light snow. This isn’t going to be a big snow by any means and should be on the wet and sloppy side before ending pretty quickly early Saturday afternoon.
Here is the first …
I will update that call again tonight and Friday.
The next system moving in will be an arctic front and associated wave of low pressure for Monday into Tuesday. The bulk of the precipitation will fall behind the front and will be in the form of snow that can have a high ratio. The air behind this for Tuesday is VERY cold and that day is likely to be a harsh winter’s day.
The models continue to send out an AMAZING signal for a major winter storm for the middle and end of next week for the eastern half of the country. Our region has been missed by all the big storms this winter, but next week’s patter is going to try its very best to change that.

As always time will tell… but if you are a snow and cold lover… next week should have you getting really excited right now.
A full update comes your way later tonight so check back. Take care.

Thanks Mr Bailey
I have been addicted to this site now for the past month. Chris does an awesome job of checking out all sources and making an informed forecast. I also have enjoyed learning from many bloggers to this site. Let’s see if we miss any more school days this winter!!
If chris is excited WE SHOULD BE EXCITED!lol
Wow all that information and only two posts….I know it is hard to get excited over the models…We are overdue. One week could make up for the entire winter…..THINK SNOW…THINK SNOW THINK SNOW
Did he say GIDDY? I feel like a little boy on Christmas morning! SNOW, SNOW,SNOW. Oh and by the way, I won’t complain about the roads after the storm, it’s part of the fun(previous post reference).
how much snow should we expect?
I hope this & next week we can max out on all the snow potential. The following week all the snow lingers on the ground where everybody has opportunity to go out and enjoy it. After that I think we all will be ready for some warmer climate. That is the great Jeff/Chris compromise of 2011.
I declare from now until mid next week a Bubba-free zone 🙂 This may be the last best shot of winter for the area, so I will keep quiet. No posts about what I think is going to happen 🙂
Not ONE post about the weather. Just friendly, offense-free banter!
Chris is “giddy?” He better not be teasing us! I would love to wake up and find a foot or more of snow outside. Seems like this should be the year if ever. I am sick of these nuisance snows! Bring on the snow…..maybe even some thundersnow!
Can we dare throw the T word around yet lol….I seriously don’t want to jinx us or anything. Believe me I am giddy that you’re giddy but I am with caution. Once bitten twice shy is how I will put it but BRING ON THE SNOW….FINALLY, PLEASE 🙂
I told you no snow this week. I had bus duty, but next week is looking promising.
Heard today at work that this web site will be costing 7.00 to access in the future. Is that truth or a tricky way to get some of the other forcasters some looks on their bloggs, since they cannot compare to Chris
Thanks CB!
I am praying for lots of beautiful snow, just snow, no ice….just beautiful wonderful gorgeous snow.
Enough to build my igloo. 😀
Did you hear that? I believe it was the sound of a proton torpedo entering a small thermal exhaust port on the death star. Good bye dark side! Hello snow!!!
Go Pack Go!!!
So nothing happens on monday?
So i may or may not have told 1,200 people that this storm next week would be the storm of the century……..
No one dare to get excited about the possiblities next week. Let’s all keep our cool…lol
the nam 0z run is not as strong as the previous runs. two inches at the most for the whole state.
This made me seriously LOL!! Love this!
One good sign I see is the traffic on the AccuWea Midwest discussion thread is nill tonight. This means all upper midwest peeps aren’t seeing anything up there. They have a tendancy of being foul weather posters, so they’ll be freezing up there it looks, while the storm track will be down our way.
The chatter on a Midwest board I frequent on another site is dead tonight, so this is a good sign for us, and many of those posters are upper midwest peeps. They tend to lurk on the board when the weather is south of their area.
awesome! btw, i click on your name every time i see you post–help with you count…
Attempt #4 at leaving a post, (so much for 3rd time being a charm).
I frequent a board that is dead quiet tonight. Based on that barometer, something may very well be up for us, as many on that site are from the northern IL, northern OH, MI and WI areas.
that is the system no one is talking about wouldn’t be surprised to see a few inches if things set-up right. this is in addition to the fri-sat and then the mid-week big storm.
Chris I’m sorry I wish i could get excited about the snow next week but i just can’t we have been let down to much this winter…..
00z gfs bufkit profiles continue to show major snowstorm from tuesday through thursday with amounts off the chart for the south and east.
Oh great I am in the 1 inch snow rain mix. What else is new? I hate Ky winters.
Why oh why do I do this to myself? Had decided to give up after being tortured by the recent blizzard coverage. Then Chris says “giddy” and and I’m powerless to resist! I feel so cheap! Lol Let it SNOW.
I am doing the same, Lincoln, and I signed up for your e-mail alerts for a new post as well. Seems like some of the criticism on here may have had an unexpectedly positive result in the long run, because now a lot of us know about your class assignment and really want to help you out with your site hits. Keep up the good work, and your blog friends on here will continue to keep clicking on your site.
This is the storm I was talking about on 02/01/11. The Canadian and now GFS is starting to pick it up. We have potential for a big snow day in KY.
Lol.
That is funny and so true! LOL
