Good Saturday, everyone. Rounds of showers and thunderstorms are targeting the bluegrass state and this action will increase tonight into Sunday. The potential is there for too much rain to fall and that’s why a Flood Watch is out for most of the region during this time.

We’ve been setting the stage for heavy rain since we our barrage of winter storms ended and, unfortunately, mother nature is delivering the wet weather goods to end February. My thoughts on all this haven’t really changed at all for days now. I expect a general 2″-4″ rainfall for the entire weekend, with locally higher amounts…

An early morning wave of showers and thunderstorms is rolling across the region, with the emphasis on the southeast. That’s where a quick inch or two of rain may fall to begin the day, so watch for a few local high water issues.

The afternoon finds fairly decent weather across the region, but this break will be short-lived. Rounds of heavy rain and thunderstorms surge in from the southwest this evening and take us through Sunday and Sunday night. The initial surge tonight is farther north closer to the Interstate 64 corridor. From there, the focus slowly shifts back toward the south and southeast for the rest of the day. It’s during all this that the greatest risk for flooding and flash flooding shows up.

The Storm Prediction Center also has much of the state in a low-end risk for severe storms…

The models vary on totals, but are all way up there…

The short range model known as the HRRR is VERY aggressive with the heavy rain potential…

In addition to the flooding potential, these showers and storms will produce some gusty winds. Here are the peak wind gusts from the Hi Res NAM…

I will have updates later today. Until then, here are Saturday storm trackers…
