Good Sunday to one and all. It’s the first full day of spring and the weather is certainly living up to the part with mild temps and sunshine. The other part of spring in the bluegrass state comes in the form of thunderstorms and those look to increase in the week ahead. Severe storms are even possible during the second half of the week.
Temps today are deep into the 60s with a mostly sunny sky. Highs may reach 70 Monday as southwest winds gust up ahead of our first system arriving later Tuesday into Wednesday. Scattered showers and thunderstorms will be noted with this system and a few could even be strong by Wednesday.
A more potent storm system then rolls into the Ohio Valley from the southwest Thursday and Friday. This is the one that has a severe weather look with it. You can see both of these systems on this animation from the EURO…
If the low tracks like the EURO is showing, things could get very active around here. The wind gust forecast from that model run is certainly pointing toward this potential…
The Canadian has a very similar look…
The GFS has a similar idea, but is, as usual, the flattest solution…
Again, this spring has the looks of an above average severe weather maker in our part of the world. I’ll go more in depth about this in the coming days.
Enjoy your Sunday and take care.
Thanks Chris, with March coming in like a Lamb it will go out like a Lion as the old saying goes.
The plant life is breaking dormancy and I hope they don’t get fooled by a late freeze on April first.
The current beautiful weather pattern we are experiencing can last through Spring as far as I am concerned.
Thanks Chris! I’m enjoying the warmer weather!
