Good Saturday, folks. Some ugly weather is rolling across the state today, but things are about to improve in a major way. The warmest air of the year is on the way into the first half of Kentucky Derby week. This looks to arrive right on cue for our flip to a much warmer May.

Steady rains roll in from southwest to northeast today as low pressure spins by just to our south. Some pretty good totals will show up as some areas top out with better than a half inch of rain. A few rumbles of thunder will even be possible across the south and southeast. Here are your radars for theday…

Highs today are WELL below normal and stay in the 50s for many.

Sunday is a slow-starter of a day with clouds lingering through the morning and then breaking from west to east in the afternoon. Highs across the east generally range from 60-65 with 70 in the west.

This kicks off a splendid period of temps as highs reach the 70s on Monday then surge toward 80 or a little better for Tuesday and Wednesday on a strong southwest flow. This is ahead of a strong low pressure rolling in from the west and southwest that looks to bring the threat for strong storms in here Wednesday night and Thursday…

As of now, this system looks progressive enough to move out of the area by the time Oak and Derby Days roll around, but it’s still not set in stone. These types of systems are notorious for slowing down.

As we look farther down the road into May, we are likely to see the warmer and stormy pattern I’ve been talking about. The EURO Weeklies have the May temps around normal to just a shade above…

You can see the stormy pattern with above normal rainfall for a lot of the region…

Make it a great day and take care.
