Good evening everyone. Freezing rain will be likely across much of northern Kentucky this evening into the overnight period and some of that may linger into Tuesday. The NWS folks have put out A Winter Weather Advisory for several counties tonight into Tuesday.
Here is a look…
Light freezing rain will be possible early this evening all the way south toward Interstate 64. Temps have been slow to rise today leading to the increased threat for some ice. It doesn’t take very much freezing rain to cause some big travel problems, so use caution if driving across the north.
Farther south… it’s all rain.
Track the precip and temps here…

The rest of the forecast remains on course. I will continue to watch the ice threat for the north and have more updates later this evening.
Help us out by posting the weather where you live and take care.

Thanks Chris
“Word” is much better than “first”
Blizzard warnings for Oklahoma two years in a row? I don’t even think Columbus Ohio or Pittsburg has had a blizzard warning in years, yet Oklahoma has had two in a row…..What’s up with that?
Do those scenarios of storm tracks that MJ sent to Chris that he then posted here that give our area snow EVER actually happen, or are they just very rare freak type storm tracks?
Had ice this morning in Lawrenceburg and 28 degrees.
Currently cloudy and 33.6
Really glad we aren’t in the brunt of the ice storm. The snow would have been fun, but I’ll take rain over ice anytime.
I live in Madison, IN and we have not gotten above 32 degrees all day! A little nervous to see how much ice we will end up with! Thanks for posts!
Does it surprise you? The East Coast have had numerous blizzards the past two winter seasons, as have the Upper Midwest, Great Plains, and Southwest (OK, Texas, etc.) But in the Lower Ohio Valley, nothing.
Would like to see a list of the cities that have had at least ONE 12 inch plus snowfall the last two winter seasons–I know Dallas, Tulsa, OKC, DC, NYC, etc are on it. Now looks like Chicago, St. Louis, etc are being added.
My point–if it didn’t happen here the last two winter seasons, when will it?
Born in Montana, reared in Minnesota and Wisconsin. Have been living in Louisville for past 15 years. NEVER have I lived in an area more unpredictable but KY is a transition zone in of itself….that being said, this storm hs great intrigue as if you timeline the NWS issuance of watches, warnings, etc. for the past 10 hours there is a decided shift south and east….not alot but definitely happening’ Good luck one and all.
I also have the Wisconsin/Montana connection and folks act like I am totally insane when I say I LOVE winter….but the stuf we experience in KY is not winter but a constant irritation, a vexation of the winter soul!!
Ok, for all you snow lovers… Go to bed tonight and wish for the low to track future south and east about 125 miles and BINGO, a foot of snow… 🙂
Was out just a little while ago and the temp was still 60 here in SE Ky.
Sure wish we were getting in on a little of the action up north….the snow part anyway.
This winter in Central KY does not hold a candle to the late 70’s winters that I lived through, the big storms have missed us big time this year! That did not happen in those classic winters of the 70’s!
Just went outside and my car is covered in ice! I live in northwest part of Rowan County.
It is currently 34 degrees here in Shelbyville.
This winter in KY is not even close to the epic winters of the 70’s that I witnessed!
Large winter storms nailed KY consistently in those winters! atleast some Snow was on the ground from DEC to April! 77-78
Kentucky is truly a transition region for the weather. We just returned from Knoxville TN last night where the temperatures were 61-71 and it dropped to 40-36 really quick once we passed Jelico Mountain south of KY. It is amazing how quick that change occurred.
33/32. Some people make fun of the theory but thats exactly whats going on in Lexington. Temp still 33. Wednesday evening when the moisture is on the way out the temp will drop hard. Next week the low will tantilize many in central Ky by edging westward only to award eastern Ky and the east coast with snow. I have been completely converted over to the forces of the dark side.
For those of you that are snow lovers…. Just go to bed tonight and pray for the low to shift 125 miles south and east and then, BINGO, plenty of snow in our neck of the woods.
I know this is along way off,but how ironic would it be if this actually happened.Anyone see the similarities between this storm and the one happening now?Oh yea, look at poor old ky…

60?? Where do you live in S.E. KY? I’m in S.E. Kentucky, and I don’t think we ever hit 40 today let alone 60.
You can watch the Oklahoma blizzard live at this address

People fear what they do no understand. The central KY 33/32 law is undeniable 😉
Lets hope that this is the last show of the Winter before we see some sunshine.
It is a flat-out ice storm tonight near the I-70 corridor near Indy! Roads a a sheet of ice lots of wrecks and they said it may be worse than the Kentucky ice storm of 2009 because of high winds after the storm! We can’t afford a generator, so if the power goes out our family is stranded!
Now it’s down to 33.
Light freezing rain is falling in Shelbyville.
Laws are made to be broken 🙂
Now it looks like a couple of snowflakes are trying to mix in.
Thx for the link Linc-sorry couldn’t help myself
It’s crazy, eh? I am from Michigan and have lived in Louisville for 18 years. I too have never seen a place where the weather is so unpredictable (any time of year). The climate transition zone is a scourge for us winter weather lovers.
Hope my family back home enjoys the 20+” they are forecasting for them.
