Good Monday, folks. It’s another fairly nice day across the Commonwealth, but the action is about to pick up the pace. We have a pattern that may turn things a little stormy as the week wears on and there’s even the chance for some tropical moisture from Nicholas to get involved.
Let’s start things out with out storm down in the Gulf. Nicholas formed Sunday and is working northward along the Texas coast today. This may very well become a hurricane before making landfall Tuesday.
Here’s the latest information and track forecast from the National Hurricane Center…

This thing continues to get better organized and it’s showing up nicely on the sat shot…

This storm will absolutely drench parts of Texas over the next few days and that is likely to become a major story.
Does some of this moisture get drawn far enough north to interact with a cold front moving in here by Wednesday? That’s the million dollar question. A few of the Sunday night Hurricane Models bring that system into our region…
This is also something the GFS is trying to do…
Many of the other models simply bring the front through here without much interaction with Nicholas as it slowly spins well to our south and southwest. We shall see.
Regardless, a pipeline of moisture may develop from our region southwest to the Gulf later in the week into the weekend, continuing the chance for some showers and storms…
In addition to Nicholas, we are still watching an area off the southeast coast and another system way out in the Atlantic…

As far as today’s weather is concerned, I could see a shower or storm popping up. I have your radars ready to go just in case…
Have a good one and take care.

In my area of central Kentucky highs in the 80’s and lows in the 60’s is not that bad, but I remember many many years ago there would have been frosty mornings by mid-September in South central Indiana. Not anymore.
A very uncertain forecast is out for what may happen this week with Tropical Storm Nicholas. None of the models are agreeing, but it’s a sure bet that extreme flooding will occur along the Southeast Texas Coast and possibly East into parts of Louisiana where it is NOT NEEDED.
I have no idea as to how our Autumn weather will turn out, but with an active tropical storm season and extreme heat and wild fires in our Western States it will make for interesting meteorological studies this coming Fall and Winter.
