Good afternoon everyone. Lost in all the fuss about the potential winter storm for early next week was the impressive cold temps from this morning. Readings went well below zero in many locations. Here is a look at some of the arctic cold temps…

Cynthiana: -9
Covington: -8
Owenton: -7
Maysville: -5
Vanceburg: -5
Frankfort: -4
Carrollton: -4
Lexington: -2
Shelbyville: -1
Morehead: -1
Shepherdsville: -1
Harrodsburg: 1
Winchester: 1

Remember those computer model maps from a few weeks ago showing sub zero temps around here for mid January? Not too bad!

Our Winter Storm Threat continues for Tuesday and Wednesday of next week. It’s all about the track of the low in terms of the impact this storm will have on us. The GFS Ensembles did trend westward this afternoon. Keep in mind this is an “average” of different runs, so things get smoothed out…

Earlier runs of the Ensembles were very much wide right.

Regardless of this storm… the upcoming pattern looks nothing short of amazing for bitter cold and snow chances all the way through February.

Full update coming your way later tonight. Take care.
