Good Wednesday to one and all. It’s a cold day across the Commonwealth, but the numbers are about to take off just in time for Christmas weekend. That temp climb comes with gusty winds and kicks off another active setup across our part of the world.

This active setup comes from a major temperature fight taking place across North America. We have some serious temperature anomalies showing up across the land in the coming week and that may spell some trouble around here before the cold wins the fight.

Temps out there today are in the 30s with gusty winds making it feel colder.

Winds begin to turn around on Thursday as temps start to climb. That climb continues Christmas Eve and Christmas Day as southwest winds crank to around 40mph in some spots. This comes as two systems cross the region with the threat for some showers over the holiday weekend…

Temps drop on Sunday as skies temporarily dry.

The battle is set next week for several systems to move across our region. I’ve made no secret the fact of how I don’t like this setup because it can get us back into some trouble. Watch how these systems shoot right on top of us on the GFS…

The GFS is the extreme option when it comes to the battle being right on top of us, but it illustrates the concern if the cold doesn’t win the battle pretty quickly. The same GFS model spits out these rain numbers through the first few days of the near year…

I say the GFS is the extreme option, and it is, but not by much. The EURO is also on board for some big rain and storms…

The flip to cold is growing stronger on the Canadian Ensembles and the timing continues to be right as we usher in a brand new year. Here are the temp departures from normal showing up…

The latest CFS forecast that takes us from the first week of January through the first week of February shows a very cold country…

The winter of 1984/85 analog lives on among many of the forecast models. 🤔🤔🤔

I will have another update later today, so check back. Have a good one and take care.
