Good Tuesday, everyone. It’s a seasonable setup for the next few days, but a widespread snow system is on the way for Thursday and Thursday night. This has the potential to dump several inches of snow for parts of the state, so this is now a Winter Storm THREAT.

Kentucky Weather Center is undergoing some work to keep everything up to speed. You will notice some downtimes today and it may not look normal for a bit, so keep that in mind and follow me on Twitter for updates: Kentuckyweather

Before we get to that potential, let’s talk about a very windy setup through early Wednesday. Gusts out there tonight may reach 45mph or a little greater and this may be noted into early Wednesday.

With the blog undergoing work, I can’t post images right now but I will attach the odds map with the tweet.

Here are a few thoughts:

  • Winter Storm THREAT for the entire state Thursday and Thursday night.
  • Low pressure develops and works along the Tennessee Valley during this time.
  • Arctic air is coming in north of this system and that means high snow ratios
  • I’m not ready for a First Call map yet, but that will likely come later today.
  • My gut says this is a widespread 2″-6″ snowfall with a swath of a little more than 6″ possible.
  • Odds favor the highest totals across the eastern half of the state.
  • Temps crash with this system and may hit the single digits Friday morning with wind chills below zero.

I will post updates later today… I think. ha Don’t forget to check twitter for fresh thoughts and some maps.

Have a great day and take care.
