Good Monday, everyone. It’s a cold and snowy MLK Day across the Commonwealth as we continue to try to dig out from our big winter storm. I’ve been talking about how this is a harsh winter pattern and we are seeing that play out and there’s a lot more in the tank. More snow makers are ahead this week.
Many areas of central and eastern Kentucky picked up another smackdown snowstorm. Some areas in the northeast, as expected, pushed the 10″ mark. The snows did in fact show up much farther west, causing issues in Louisville and Covington.
Now, we have a system moving through today, putting down another 1″-2″ for many. This will keep roads snow-covered and slick as temps stay in the 20s for a lot of the state.
The next system moving in here is an arctic front arriving Wednesday. This has rain along it with a likely switch to snow as an arctic wave develops along the bounday…

That can put down a swath of accumulating snow that ushers in bitterly cold air for the rest of the week.
The setup for next weekend is one that CAN produce another eastern US winter storm. I’m not sold on it impacting our weather as of now, but I’m not sold on it not impacting our weather either.
Overall, this is a VERY cold and wintry pattern that shows no signs of going away through the end of the month and into early February.
Ok, I’m pretty worn out, so that’s all you kids get for now. I will have updates later today, so check back. Until then, I leave you with your tracking tools for the day…

Make it a great day and take care.
According to the Ventusky weather site, Maple, Kentucky received 1.7 inches of Snow from a clipper ( upper level low ) that came through late night and early this morning. Just enough to cover up the garbage we received from Izzy. So far in January I’ve received a total Snowfall of 9.3 inches, which is very close to our yearly average of 12 inches.
Now I am focusing my attention on temperatures over the next three months. What ever temperatures that occur after February 2nd will make or break our upcoming Spring season.
Chris, here’s hoping you get that much needed rest. You did an excellent job in your forecasting. As for my fellow commentators enjoy the Snow if you got Snow, and those that didn’t maybe next time around.
The Wednesday system looks like another east of I-65 snow event.
Certainly no shortage of snow chances coming up according to modeling..Around the 22nd looks interesting just because it’s south..Seems like every system this year has trended NW so I guess we’ll see if it’s still showing up this weekend..
I would have never guessed looking at the satellite yesterday that there would be the massive cloud deck today….
