Good Sunday to one and all. We have another very mild spring-like day out there as we invite a new guest to the party. Rounds of showers and storms rumble in and some of them could be strong. This kicks off a stormy setup through Monday as we continue to watch for the return of a winter pattern later next week.
Temps out there today are in the 60s with a 70 possible for areas seeing a little sun. Scattered showers and storms push in, but this isn’t all day rain and not everyone sees the action. Areas that do will get in on heavy rains and very gusty winds. The Storm Prediction Center has a risk for severe storms across much of the state…
Damaging wind is the main threat from any storm that goes up.
The risk the focuses farther east across the rest of the state on Monday…
Damaging winds are the main player with any storm that goes up, but there’s also the small risk for a tornado or two to spin up.
The Hi Res NAM has some impressive wind gusts showing up…
Much colder winds blow behind this system on Tuesday as we watch another system coming from the south on Wednesday. That will be a system that likely stays to our southeast, but it may very well bring some rain into the east. The NAM even has some southern Appalachian Mountain flake action…
Temps come up a bit as that departs, but the numbers go well below normal and turn flat out cold with this wintertime trough digging into the region…
That may be accompanied by some winter weather along the way. 😠
For those of you who aren’t on Twitter, you missed this bit of news…

I will throw you another update later today. As usual, I have you all set to track the severe weather potential in the west. Our exclusive interactive radar also features live storm chaser video streams, so be sure to check that out…

Make it a great day and take care.
Congratulations to Meteorologist Chris Bailey on his Continuing Career as Chief Meteorologist on WKYT !
Hoping we Receive the Rains as Yesterday Winds really Dried out the Forest Floor. Fire Danger is just as Big of A threat as Severe Weather in Isolated Areas.
Red Maples are beginning to Bloom And I have the Allergy to Prove it. LOL
Congrats Chris.
This Website lives on.
I had a giant wind gust last night, I woke up and found my metro government garbage cans turned upside down.
Here is the summary of the severe thunderstorms and strong winds that came through the Chicago Metro Area late Saturday night. Several places saw 70+ MPH wind gusts along with the storms, with a peak wind gust of 81 MPH at the Rockford Airport. https://weather.gov/lot/2022mar0506
This is a very early start to our severe weather season. Last year, our first organized severe weather outbreak did not come until June 13th. The entire three months of March, April, and May saw only one isolated Severe Thunderstorm Warning issued that whole time.
It’s freezing cold here this morning, with west winds gusting over 40 MPH and temps in the mid-30s. A mix of rain and snow, changing to snow, is expected here after midnight tonight with maybe an inch or two of accumulation tomorrow morning.
Congrats to CB on the contract extension.
Still Waiting on the Rain here in Maple. Lots of Wind and A very Overcast Sunday.
Absolutely DELIGHTED that Chris Bailey has an extended his contract because he is the best Meteorologist in our are, and proves it over, and over, and over. His longer range forecasts generally prove to be accurate and when he misses a call(very rarely) he owns it. That makes him even more amazing. I am so glad for all of us!!
