Good Tuesday, everyone. Waves of showers and storms continue to push across the region today and some are on the strong side. This is the opening act to a much bigger severe weather setup coming later Wednesday into Wednesday night.
Let’s start with today and roll forward. A scattering of thunderstorms will be noted on a very warm and windy day. You will notice a touch of humidity in the air, too.
A few of the storms may be severe, but this doesn’t look like all day or wall to wall action. Here’s today’s Severe Weather Outlook from the Storm Prediction Center…
The greatest severe weather threat comes Wednesday, specifically Wednesday evening into Wednesday night. Here’s the Severe Weather Outlook from the Storm Prediction Center…
That’s a very ominous threat and for good reason. Here’s a little bit about how the day may play out:
- A few strong storms may be noted during the daytime hours, well ahead of the main risk.
- Winds will be gusty as temps hit the 70s for many.
- A line of severe storms should develop just to the west of the state during the afternoon.
- This line rolls into western Kentucky during the evening with damaging winds, large hail and a few tornadoes.
- That line gets into central Kentucky late evening through the wee hours of the morning and then into the east by Thursday morning.
- The severe threat looks to diminish the farther east the line gets, but the potential for damaging wind and a few tornadoes should reach into central Kentucky.
Much cooler and drier air sweeps in behind this for Thursday with highs in the 60s.
Friday’s weather looks pretty good with 60s and a chance for a run at 70. We may see a scattered shower or storm move in Friday night and Saturday to kick off that Easter Weekend. Behind that comes a system that can bring some cool showers for Easter Sunday…
This is ahead of another ugly setup moving in early next week. Chilly showers really kick in for Sunday night and Monday…
That’s being pushed by another winter look and, yes, there’s model support for those flakes I’m worried about. Here’s the EURO for next Tuesday…
This is coming from ANOTHER massive upper low spinning through the region…
That looks a lot like what just happened a few days ago and is a continuation of this ugly spring. If you’re a regular reader of KWC, you knew this was coming as it’s been on my radar since back in January.
I will have updates as needed and will have the latest on WKYT-TV starting at 4pm. As usual, I have you all set to track the storms across the region…
Possible Watch Areas
Make it a great Tuesday and take care.
I rather have snow showers than high winds. I am fawn of my electric.
The Storm Prediction Center is predicting that an organized line of storms will form to the east of the front, and that the threat exists for supercell development ahead of the line. Bowing segments could produce wind gusts of 75 kts, with a few tornadoes and large hail. What concerns me is that the storms will maintain their intensity into the overnight hours.
Stay safe out there!
Thanks Chris. We received 0.86 inches of Rain in the last 48 hours, which was needed to alleviate the dry conditions.
Hopefully, we won’t Receive the Severe Weather that is predicted ?
This has been a “Crummy Spring” so far, but doesn’t surprise me at all !
