Good Wednesday to one and all. It’s a much milder day across the Commonwealth as our pattern gets set to flip on a dime. Much warmer temps are pushing in here and this will take our weekend temps toward Late May or early June readings. Unfortunately, it’s not going to last as another cold setup takes shape next week.
Let’s begin with where we are today and roll forward.
A mix of sun and clouds will be noted with temps into the 60s. A 70 may show up in the west and south. You will notice more clouds late in the day and those clouds are ahead of a cold front dropping in here early Thursday. This is set to bring some scattered showers and storms with it before it heads back to the north as a warm front. Some of those showers and storms get into the west this evening. Here are your radars to follow that potential…
Much of the action is just to our north and west and this shows up well on the rainfall forecast through Thursday…
Temps really surge for Friday and reach the 70s area-wide with an 80 in the west and south. Winds will be gusty from the southwest and those bodes well for the weekend. Daytime highs for Saturday and Sunday may very well hit the 80-85 degree range…
A cold front looks to roll in here on Monday and that will bring a line of showers and storms with it…
Colder winds then push in here behind that on Tuesday with another cold shot later in the week. That one can bring more frost and freezing conditions to the region as the models have a very cold look. Check out those lows…
The EURO Ensembles continue to be on the REALLY cold side for late April into early May. Check out the 7 day temp departures…

CONTROL RUN…
That makes me want to use some words I can’t use in a public forum! 😡
Have a great day and take care.
Meh. Won’t last long.
Red Bud Trees are Blooming and the Tulip Popular are beginning to ” Leaf Out. Azaleas are beginning to Bloom. Hope we don’t have to contend with another Frost/ Freeze next week ?
We have plenty of Clouds, but Rain is scares in My area of Kentucky. Hopefully, we will receive some Rain soon and without Severe Weather.
Scarce not scares
Our much-below normal April continues, and we even had measurable snow on Monday morning, with 0.2 inches at Chicago’s O’Hare Airport, and 0.4 inches at the NWS Forecast Office in the SW Suburbs. We have had only one 70-degree day so far this month.
This was a very disappointing snowfall season for the Chicago area though, with totals winding up below normal, and much less than last season. O’Hare Airport has received 32.8 inches since last Fall, with the normal for a season at 38.1 inches. The NWS Forecast Office has received 32.2 inches.
We had lots of Canadian Clippers go through the region, with very minor snow totals of around an inch or inch-and-a-half, and only one major storm. O’Hare’s maximum snowcover was only six inches.
The 2020-21 snowfall season saw 48.8 inches at O’Hare, and 46.6 inches at the NWS Forecast Office.
Mike, we had our normal amount of accumulated Snow ( around 15 inches ) here in Maple {Central Kentucky ) more than last year’s total, which I can’t recall.
Maybe next Winter if we don’t have another La Nina in the Tropical Pacific ?
Here is a complete summary of the historic blizzard that saw record snowfall amounts and made travel impossible in many parts of North Dakota last week, including some amazing photos of the huge snow drifts. https://weather.gov/bis/April2022Blizzard
