Good Friday to one and all. It’s been one heck of a past few days of weather with rounds of severe storms lashing the bluegrass state. That’s behind us for now as our temps really take off into the start of the weekend. This is ahead of another storm maker later Saturday into Sunday with more storms next week.
Let’s start with a quick look back at the MONSTER hail that fell across the state. Anywhere from marble to BASEBALL sized hail fell across the state Thursday afternoon and evening. Wait… BASEBALL? Yes… BASEBALL!! ⚾
Areas of Mercer and Jessamine Counties were hammered with the big stuff. Check this out…

Wow! Now what does that sound like as it’s falling? Sound up…

Today’s daylight will show the damage left behind.
Our day may still feature a few showers and storms in the north and east early on. Here are your radars to follow along…
Highs today generally hit the 85-90 degree range with a mix of sun and clouds. Humidity levels will make it feel even toastier.
Saturday will be another steam bath of a day with some scattered storms going up during the afternoon and evening…
Our cold front then rolls into the region late Saturday night and Sunday with more widespread showers and some strong storms…
While Sunday is looking wetter than my thoughts from the past few days, it will still feature some dry periods.
Temps come way down behind this front into early next week but the next system will quickly develop and roll through here by Wednesday. This may feature another round or two of big thunderstorms…
That could be a system that cuts off from the main flow and, if it does, could bring some cooler and unsettled weather into the Memorial Day weekend…
Make it a great Friday and take care.
I haven’t seen hail that big since April 16th 1998, when Bowling Green was pounded by softball-sized hail and 5+ inches of rain. At the time, I was working at Fruit of the Loom’s HQ, where nearly 80% of the cars in the parking lot were totaled. Mine was not, but the sheet metal resembled the dimples on a golf ball. When I got home, the side of my house looked like it had been machine gunned! Coming to work the next morning, we saw craters all over the lawn, some nearly 5″ across and 3″ deep, caused by hailstones that had embedded and melted.
It was a simultaneously amazing and terrifying experience.
I wonder if a hail ball that big could kill you if one of them fell on your head.
I am sure it could lead to at least a concussion.
I only received some sprinkles at my home, I did have a lightning show.
Oh it absolutely could kill you…the size and speed they are traveling. Yesterday my part of Lex missed most of the storms but the thunder was roaring. I hate that we are going to have HOT days the next couple of days. I prefer 60s/70s
WOW !!! Never seen hail that size. I pray and hope that no one was outside when this unlikely weather event was happening. The damage can be repaired to the roofs and property in time. Those Families that experience this, please don’t worry it will be Okay.
Here in Maple, we had nothing but heat and humidity under threatening skies. I am hoping we will receive some much needed rain soon.
I agree with you Mark, I prefer Temperatures in the 60’s and 70’s.
