Good Sunday to one and all. It’s been a gorgeous past few days of weather as a blast of September air invaded the state. We keep the pleasant air, but some unsettled weather gets back in here for the week ahead.
As a matter of fact, we do have some unsettled stuff out there today with scattered showers and storms. The best chance is across central and eastern Kentucky where some local downpours will be possible.
This won’t be terribly widespread, but your radars will be tracking the action…
Temps today range from the upper 70s to low 80s in the central and east with 80-85 for much of the west.
I have no changes to the overall pattern for the week ahead as it skews cooler than normal with the chance for scattered showers and storms. This setup is nowhere near as wet as recent weeks, thank goodness! Still, you can see how things can get rather unsettled through next weekend…
I’m using the Candian Model as it’s the steadiest right now and fits the pattern best. Watch how it keeps the troughs digging in here through the next 10 days…
The EURO is taking that trough back toward the plains a bit by the end of the run…
The GFS doesn’t know what to do with the trough…
It is really hard to overstate just how pathetic the GFS has been this summer. It failed miserably with the historic rainfall and flooding of the past month. It constantly showed all time record hot temps across Kentucky that didn’t even come close to verifying. You literally cannot bash the GFS enough for how bad it failed Kentucky this summer… The same goes for those who use it and northing else to make a forecast.
Have a great Sunday and take care.
Thanks Chris, maybe the GFS will make the necessary improvements in their forecast before the Fall and Winter season comes upon us ?
Yesterday’s weather was delightful for any outdoor activity, low dew points and humidity with a high temperature in the low 80’s.
We will need rain sometime this week here in Taylor county but, in my local forecast the chances are low on coverage.
The GFS was decent last winter.
Let’s see how it does going into the fall.
