Good Wednesday everyone. November is off to a fine start as we have another day in the 60s lined up for you guys. Things will change up a bit on Thursday, but it’s right back toward mild heading into the weekend. Enjoy the first half of November because the second half is likely to be totally different. ![]()
More winter talk here in a bit. Let’s start with the nice stuff we have out there today.
Temps will warm well into the 60s for central and eastern Kentucky as the west tops the 70 degree mark. Skies will me mostly sunny with a few high clouds during the late afternoon hours.
A blizzard is raging across parts of the rockies right now and this system will come rolling eastward toward the Ohio Valley later Thursday. It will weaken as it does so and will also lose a lot of its cold weather attributes.
Rain will work slowly eastward during the day Thursday. Temps will be tough to gauge because of the timing of the rain into any one particular area. Highs in the east may hit the low 60s before the rain moves in. Once it starts raining… temps will cool quickly toward the high 40s and low 50s.
The NAM and GFS both show this low working southeastward across the region, but differ slightly on the placement on the heaviest rain axis…
The rain will move out VERY quickly Thursday night and early Friday as the low works to our east. Highs will rebound into the upper 50s and low 60s with sunshine returning. This will set us up for a fantastic weather weekend as we get in on some Indian Summer conditions. Temps will soar well into the 60s under sunny skies.
The weather next week will feature a weak front working in by Monday with our next threat for some scattered showers. This front should put the brakes on across the Tennessee Valley allowing for a big storm to form by the middle of next week. We should be on the mild side of this and this may be a heavy rain and thunderstorm maker for parts of our region.
Again… enjoy the mild first half of the month as I continue to see strong indications of an early start to winter showing up during the last few weeks of November.
Speaking of winter… the famed Kentucky “doctor of barnyard science”, Dick Frymire, put out his annual winter forecast a few weeks ago.

I’d pay alot just to experience the snow out east of denver tonight on the plains gusts near 60mph and 3-7 inches thats going to make some enormous drifts. gotta love the plains.
hmmmm! first from the town of wayne, wva. i really do need a life. up at 12:30am on a work night and worried about being first on a non eventful night weather wise, WOW!!!! any way, all jokes aside, whos joking? lol!!! currently the temp is 44 under a clear and a calm sky. i would like to thank every one on this blog for being so nice on the comment section and not being rude with 1 another such as it is on wsaz.com. that blog is getting insane because you can not comment on any thing over there without getting a nasty response from some one. this blog is so much more better imo due to lack of lag time for 1 and also because chris is more involved on this weather blog. again a big thank you for making this a number 1 weather blog in kentucky and this is coming from a weather nut in wva. thanks!!!!!!!!
well sorry about that tommy, i thought i was first.
For which locale was Frymire’s forecast made? Louisville, Lexington, Cincinnati, Huntington, or other?
Just saw the TIV. Would love to ride out a tornado in that. The DOW will be in Louisville Friday and Saturday.
Pretty sure that was for Louisville.
after a beautiful day here in the town of wayne, wva. the sun has now set and we have a beautiful evening in the works with a temp of 60 to 62 after a high today of 67 or so degrees. looks as though most of the rain may go to our south on thursday and it may not begin until thursday evening thus most of the day may stay dry meaning with temps in the upper 60s once again, it may not be as sunny but it wont be half bad either. thanks for your time and may god bless you and your family.
Hey Chris… It’s harvest time and we’re trying to get all our grain up before the rain tomorrow. Around what time do you expect it to move in? Thanks a bagillion. 🙂
Next week western ky may see alot of rain according to the GFS..Strong sw flow and some strong disturbances come into the Southern and Central Plains and Midwest..Sure has been a wild weather pattern..Somebody somewhere in ky will get alot of snow this year if this keeps up…Hopefully…
Kentucky is a beautiful place, I’ve always wanted to visit.
