Good Sunday, everyone. It’s a windy and cold day across the Commonwealth as we are locked into a winter pattern for an extended period. Our recent light snow maker is pulling away with another messy light system ready to zip in behind it by Monday night.
I want to start with this tweet from a local NWS office…
Moisture from Hurricane Nicole? That exited the state Friday night. The Saturday moisture was from a cold front and wave of low pressure that developed along it.
A few flurries or snow showers (NOT from Nicole) may linger into the start of our Sunday, but this action should pull away fairly quickly. Here are your radars to say bye-bye to this round of winter…
Highs today may not get out of the 30s again for many, especially where clouds linger. Monday will see a mix of sun and clouds before clouds thicken. Highs generally range from 40-45.
Clouds will increase quickly from the southwest before the day is finished. Those clouds are ahead of a system working in from southwest to northeast Monday night and Tuesday. This is looking fairly light right now as we don’t look to get much of a phased system. That leads to light rain, light snow and even a bit of a mix rolling across our region. Flurries and snow showers should try to fill in behind this by Wednesday and early Thursday.
The future radar from the NAM only goes through Tuesday night, but shows this well…
The Canadian has a similar look and goes out deeper in time, showing the light snow and flurries for Wednesday and Thursday…
The GFS is pretty wimpy and doesn’t have much winter weather at all…
The EURO is also keeping the initial system pretty light, but sees the wraparound light snow and flurries…
Even colder air crashes in behind that system with another big blast of cold due for the end of next week into next weekend. Look at these blasts swinging in here…
Those are some insane blasts for this time of year and that should extend into the start of Thanksgiving week. Can we get one of those to spin up a storm system in the east? Time will tell.
I will see you guys for updates later today. Make it a great Saturday and take care.

More rain than snow for Ky.
Nothing new with this pattern.
Yeah, but you may get on the Snow train later. Every La Nina event is different. Yesterday in South Central Indiana some areas accumulated up to 4 inches of Snow. In my area of South Central Kentucky, we haven’t receive even a flake of Snow so far this season. In my area we normally don’t receive accumulating Snow, but we received a good soaking rain Friday and Saturday. My last great Snowstorm was at Christmastime 2004 in Southwest Indiana when it Snowed 2 feet. I have never seen any Thanksgiving Day where there was Snow on the ground.
Wishing you a Happy Birthday Schroeder!
Thank you Dottie. Are you and your Husband hunting deer this weekend ?
Had 2 inches of snow on ground yesterday here in far western ky.
You may be in the best location for Snowstorms this Winter. This recent low’s path came right through my area, which explains why we receive the cold rains and your area was north and west where the Snows occurred. Also your area was north of the 540 line, which is always the cut off for the rain / snow.
