Good Sunday everyone. Our much anticipated storm system has rolled into town and will dump a ton of rain over the next few days. This may cause some problems before all is said and done. There will also be a wintry aspect to the storm as our rain switches to snow in many areas.

A pipeline of rain continues to move eastward across the state and will put the brakes on for the next few days. This pipeline extends to the Gulf of Mexico and will draw a lot of water northward into the region. Total rains of 2″-4″ will be possible through Tuesday and this will likely cause some high water issues. River flooding may also become a problem as many of them are already running high.

I will have your tracking tools at the end of this update.

The big upper level low cutting off to our southwest will produce snow underneath it. This means flakes will fly all the way into northern Mississippi and Alabama over the next few days. This upper low will shift northeastward Monday into Tuesday and that’s when we should see our rain make the transition to a mix and some snow…

Just follow the core of that  closed low and you will be able to follow the switch to some snow. Yes… it will be coming from the south! Can some areas get in on a touch of accumulation? A warm and wet ground argues against it… but I can’t rule it out.

Want to see a colder than normal pattern taking shape for the next few weeks? (Whjy am I asking so many questions? Arghhh… did it again ) Well… this is it and the GFS Ensembles show it well…

There will be snow threats during this time and one in particular next weekend into early the following week is sending out a strong signal.

Back to the heavy rain threat of the next few days, now. Let’s track it…

Rainfall Since Midnight

More updates come your way later today. Have a great Sunday and take care.
