Good Saturday and welcome to the weekend. The first full weekend of 2023 is off and running with a very weak system impacting a few counties today, with a more important one on Sunday. Looking down the road, a much bigger storm system has the chance to blow up late next week.

The best chance for a little precipitation today is across southern Kentucky. This is likely early in the day and in the form of a few showers, but some wet snow can’t be ruled out. Again, this isn’t anything to get excited about, but your radars are here to keep you company…

Some sunshine will be noted for many as the day wears on.

Additional moisture streams in later tonight and Sunday. That means a few light showers show up and some of that may start as a bit of a mix in the north. Here’s the future radar from the Hi Res NAM from 7am Sunday through 1am Monday…

Another weak system may bring a shower in here by Tuesday, but the focus is on the system coming behind that. One of those bowling ball upper lows crosses the country and looks to be joined by some energy dropping into it. That’s likely to form a monster upper level low in the eastern part of the country late in the week into the following weekend…

There’s not a lot of cold air coming into this system, but strong lows like that produce their own cold air and create snow on the northern and western side.

The GFS is going toward a hefty storm system…

The Canadian has a similar thought process…

These types of systems need to be watched closely as they can really lay a smackdown underneath them. Something like this lead to the infamous “dusting” back in February of 1998.

I’ll have your normal updates later today. Have a good one and take care.
