Good afternoon, folks. Gusty winds and crashing temps are showing up as a stout low pressure passes by to the north and northeast. This brings in rounds of light snow and snow showers tonight through Thursday night with light accumulations a good bet.
I don’t have a lot of time for this update, so let’s get after it.
The snow coming during this time isn’t a lot, but it will be enough for some delays and cancellations over the next few mornings. The snowfall forecast continues to show coatings to up to an inch or two for some areas…
The models show why it’s hard to pinpoint exact areas that get an inch or two of snow…

That’s why you see the coating-2″ forecast. 😜 I suspect a lot of kids and teachers will be doing snow dances tonight. 💃🕺
The setup next week continues to feature more in the way of winter storms targeting the region with the potential for rain, snow and ice…

I’ll drop by for another update this evening. Until then, let’s do some tracking…
Have a good one and take care.
Euro ensembles bullish on above normal temps. for Feb.
Bold prediction that February will feature the same as January, and the Ground Hog Phil won’t see his shadow.
If we have the Ice this will be the worse place ever to live. Hoping the high wind is not going to be a weekly event. Snow flurries a no show. not a big surprise.

Schroeder you ask me if I remember if Taylor Co. was having those types winter back in 1976-1978 in the last forum. Yes from Midwest to up east coast were in all in it. I do remember January and part of February of 1978 we miss 30 straight days of school due to snow and the temperature never got up above freezing the whole time with zero temps of the night.
Wikipedia has a great article about the Blizzard of 1978 that you and Schroeder might find interesting. Here is the link: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_Blizzard_of_1978
There is also an external link at the bottom of the article to a post from a TV station in Louisville, Kentucky entitled “Remembering the Great Blizzard of 1978” which is a very interesting read also.
Sorry the link doesn’t work, but you can go directly to wikipedia.org and type in the search field “Great Blizzard of 1978” and you will be taken to the article.
Thanks Mike, For the link to the Blizzard of 1978.
Thanks Illinois Mike
Thanks Winter Lover for Taylor Co. and the Winters of 1976 to 1977. I liked the Snow, but not the below zero weather that lasted too long back then.

I found the Article on the Great Blizzard of 1978, but it wouldn’t transfer the copy. What a Gyp.
You put down “Great Blizzard of 1978” twice, that’s why.
Glad you were able to find the article anyhow. One of the things I found most fascinating about that blizzard was that the entire state of Indiana was put under a Blizzard Warning during the height of the storm!
The reason we haven’t had any Snows here in Kentucky is the Polar jet stream is dominating over the weak subtropical jet to the South. This happens way too often. La Nina is in charge. When we have El Nino which is more rare, the Subtropical jet becomes dominate and forces the Polar jet South to merge with the active Subtropical jet then Snowstorms form in the Southern plains and move into our area. That’s the weather patterns in a nutshell.
