Good Saturday to one and all. The weekend weather looks really good, but I’m not a fan of the overall pattern we’re in. It’s been active and causing troubles and it looks like this is going to continue well into the first month of Meteorological Spring.
Highs out there today reach 45-50 in most areas with mostly sunny skies. Those numbers will climb even more for Sunday with widespread temps in the 55-60 degree range.
The pattern next week is a busy one with several systems set to work through the region. This will bring the renewed threat for too much rain. Here’s the map I made yesterday…
The models are latching onto this overall thought process. Check out the rain totals over the next week…
The GFS Extended shows the bullseye of above normal rain right on top of us…
The Control Run is even uglier…
I’ll throw you another update later today. Make it a good one and take care.

Thanks Chris, I agree with you about the pattern not changing and been wondering why the Southeast Ridge is not declining in strength with La Nina phasing to neutral ? The Southeast Ridge has been dominating our climate for several years now and seems to be increasing even with a almost ENSO / neutral. If we ever phase into ENSO / El Nino this coming Fall and Winter the Pacific Decadal Oscillation will turn positive and our Winters will be more interesting for potential Snows.
We had about a months worth of rain this past Thursday. Anymore rain may delay planting season this Spring. Farmers and gardeners just can’t catch a break with this terrible weather pattern we are in.
In my opinion, the toxic spell in East Palestine, Ohio is the last straw. Now we need to fix our broken Country.
I meant spill not spell. It seems like I have trouble spelling simple words anymore after the stroke I had last Spring. It did however compromise my speech. Hell getting old.
Remind me not to get old!
Seriously, I hope your health problems and those of other KWC commenters will improve.
Thanks Mike, I wish I was 20 years old again. I didn’t feel the old coming on until I reached 70. I do feel there may be more Winter weather ( Snow ) as we approach mid March.
At least the weekends have been nice over the past few weeks. I think.
Oh Wow Chris that’s a scary amount of rain totals. I wonder if we will have this pattern of rain all spring.I hope not. Each year it seems the River levels inch up a little each year but I guess it all depends on much rain we get.
RIP WINTER
All aboard the rain train coming to a town near you!
Maybe just maybe one of those rain events may turn out a huge Snowstorm. I’ve seen this happen many times in late February and early March. In the 1960’s we almost always had a big Snowstorm around High School sectional time, but I always made it to the game. Good times of the past.
We didn’t make much of a dent on Thursday in the major snow drought we have going on here in the Chicago area. O’Hare Airport wound up with only two inches of snow, and in the SW Suburbs at the NWS Forecast Office, less than an inch was recorded. O’Hare has now received only 16.2 inches of snow for the season, with 14.0 inches at the NWS Forecast Office. It sure is going to be a struggle to reach 20 inches.
It still can happen Mike.
