Good Friday, everyone. An outbreak of severe weather and high winds is sweeping across the Bluegrass state today. This is bringing the potential for damaging winds, tornadoes and some local high water issues.
Let’s start with the latest Severe Weather Outlook from the Storm Prediction Center…
The setup is there for a few tornadoes to spin up across the area, especially central and eastern Kentucky.
Widespread wind damage is likely today and this may include widespread power outages. Wind gusts of 70mph or higher will be possible. The models continue to show some insane gusts…
Please stay weather aware today and have a plan of action when storms roll into your area.
I will update things as I can. As usual, I have you all set to track today’s severe storms, including the live stream for WKYT…
Possible Watch Areas
Stay safe and take care.
Stay safe, yall. Songs of the day are Humans Being by Van Halen and Ride The Lightning by Metallica.
AWESOME SONGS! 🙂
So much for riding the snow/rain fence line.
The models cannot forecast spring weather a week out.
I wish that it was the case. I prefer the cold rain followed by festive flakes over what is coming at us later today.
I am concerned–our area is in the “slight risk” for severe weather, yet the OFFICIAL NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE FORECAST LITERALLY DOESNT EVEN MENTION A CHANCE OF THUNDERSTORMS?!!?
Friday
Rain, mainly before 1pm, then a chance of showers after 1pm. High near 61. Breezy, with a southeast wind 6 to 11 mph increasing to 16 to 21 mph in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 37 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New precipitation amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible.
What is happening NWS CRW?!!?
Stay safe everyone, had lot of rain in my neck of woods in far western ky. So far no rumbling has happen hope it stays that way.
I had 1.30 inches of rain in the last 48 hours. Rain has ended. Now we’re in the dry slot. Now we wait and see what happens ?
Barometer at my PWS continues to drop like a rock. Was 29.78 in/hg at 10:30pm and is currently 29.29 in/hg, and still falling.
Wow, Cat4 BP. could go to 5
29.22 now, and still falling. Temperature is 69°F, dewpoint is 64°F. Sun is concealed by clouds, but it’s a relatively thin layer that’s letting solar radiation through.
Currently 28.9 inches of mercury at the center of the low. Moving Northeast. Same as the storm last week, but with lower barometric pressure.
29.11 in/hg in Bowling Green right now, and continues to drop.
Hey Winterlover r u okay?
Tornado reported in Paducah
Yes, i live in Union.co that line of storms is coming our way. Thanks for asking.
I’m in Lone Oak right next to Paducah…all is ok here not sure if it touched down or not. The warning was for Reidland and Ledbetter. I think it was radar indicated. Hopefully no damage or injuries anywhere.
Glad you’re safe
The Tornado warned for the southern Ohio County area is moving NE at 85mph!!
Barometric pressure continues to drop in the Bowling Green area now at 29.06 in/hg.
What is a good site to use to see the wind and pressure and all that?? Can anyone recommend a good site for those readings?? I am already hearing a few wind gust now.
The Ventusky weather site Crystal. You can find Pikeville and all the weather information that you want for your hometown.
Thank you Schroeder I love that weather site! It gives the winds and everything.
Paducah is almost the center of the lowest barometric pressure. Here’s the Ventusky weather site

Storms are lining up through Tennessee into Alabama, historically this saps the energy needed for Severe Weather in Central Kentucky. We shall see if this holds true.
I seen reported tornado damaged on Twitter
McCracken county.
had tornado warnings out here in Union.co, haven’t heard any damages as of yet or the tornado actually touch down. Were are experiencing very gusting winds as of now.
The Chicago area misses out on yet another major winter storm, as the heaviest snow is now predicted to fall well southeast and east of the Chicago Metro Area, in NW and Northern Indiana and Lower Michigan, where Winter Storm Warnings are in effect. Any snow that falls here likely won’t even accumulate because of the above-freezing temperatures.
As usual, the various computer models had a really hard time the last several days pinning down the area getting the heavy snow.
It’s 36 degrees this afternoon with a strong NE wind gusting over 35 MPH, and just a little light rain is falling here in the SW Suburbs of Chicago.
Mike on radar it looks like maybe snow action near Chicago . Is that you or no?
It was just a little bit of light snow which didn’t accumulate, Crystal.
It’s still above freezing at 36 degrees.
Bummer
Mike, weather forecasting in the old days 1950 to 1970 was far more accurate.
I doubt that.
I was around back then 1950’s, which were better times and the weather forecasting was more accurate.
People on Twitter really complaining about storms missing their areas.
I kind of get it…. some people just love severe storms (not the damage) just the awesomeness of them. I used to be this way but not anymore.
Powers been out for over an hour. I got the generator on. Wind is terrible here. That’s stating the obvious. Hope the power comes on tomorrow as it is forecast to be a nice weekend ?
Schroeder I hope your power is back!
Hey JoeDfrom BG and Schroeder just heard that we have broken the barometer pressure record today that was back in our 1978 infamous blizzard.
Barometer hit 880mb here at my location in fayette county
I have lived here all my life and this is the lowest pressure and the most sustained winds so far max 73mph . Everyone please stay safe and a huge thank you to Chris for the advance warning and coverage of this historic weather day
I heard that it was broken.
Record in Louisville
977.5 mb
79 wind gust
Over 75,000 with out power.
Fortunately I still have power.
Electric flickered a couple of times inside my house. I had to reset clocks on my appliances twice.
877.5mb
Power back on at my house in SE Lexington. No major damage here but I see lots of shingles blown off of neighboring roofs. I hope everyone made it through without harm.
Also in SE area of Lexington ( across from the “cave” fire station have several shingles missing and privacy fence down never want to see that wind again
