Good Saturday, folks. It’s the weekend and things are starting out with a round of showers and thunderstorms early today. This is being pushed by a cold front pressing across the state with much better weather coming in behind it from west to east late today.

From there, the focus of the forecast is on what to do with a cutoff low pressure developing across the southeastern part of the country in the week ahead.

Let’s begin with today and hit the fast-forward button. Rain and storms are out there this morning, especially across central and eastern Kentucky. Some 1″ rain amounts may show up for some before the rain tapers from west to east through the afternoon hours.

Here are your radars to follow the progress of today’s rain…

Temps this afternoon will be warmer in the west as the sun shows up for a longer time than the east. Highs reach 70-75 west and may not get out of the 60s in the east.

Sunday looks amazing with 40s to start and highs reaching 70-75 during the afternoon.

Highs continue to warm into the week ahead and should reach 80 or better from Tuesday through Thursday. Bring it!

As we get closer to Memorial Day Weekend, the overall pattern becomes a little murky. A big cutoff low will be spinning this week across the deep south and there’s a chance this lifts to the north and brings a few showers and storms at some point over the holiday weekend.

The EURO is now lifting this upper low farther north…

That matches what the Canadian has been working on for a while now…

The GFS had been lifting this to the north, but many of the recent runs keep this to our south…

If we look to the Ensembles for some help, we find the EURO Ensembles showing Kentucky riding the fence between much warmer than normal holiday weekend weather to our west and northwest, and much cooler than normal temps to our east and southeast…

The GFS Ensembles are farther west with the cooler temps into our region…

That would be make for a tame temperature end to the month of May and I suspect June starts in similar fashion. In terms of rainfall, don’t be surprised if the first half of June averages a drier than normal. Hmm.

Make it a great Saturday and take care.
