Good Saturday, folks. Our Memorial Day Weekend started out on a great note but it’s about to go downhill in a hurry. Rain and VERY cool temps are moving in from the southeast and impact the rest of our weekend.

Highs today reach the upper 60s and low 70s in the southeast as clouds increase. Areas of the west hit the mid and upper 70s with more in the way of sunshine. From here, things get ugly.

Here’s a breakdown:

  • Rain rolls in from southeast to northwest this evening into tonight.
  • Showers overspread much of the state on Sunday with heavy rain in the east.
  • Rain totals of 1″-2″ will be a good bet into parts of eastern and southeastern Kentucky.
  • Some models are trying to increase those totals just a bit and edge them a little farther west, so that’s something to watch.
  • Showers on Sunday will expand into areas of western Kentucky, though totals will be much lighter.
  • Sunday high temps will be in the 50s for many areas. This will give us the chance to set record cool high temps for May 28th.
  • Memorial Day looks better but with the chance for scattered showers and storms lingering. Highs will make a run toward the low and mid 70s.

As you can see, the models are spitting out some of those hefty rain numbers across the east…

With the showers and clouds impacting the region, highs may not get out of the 50s into areas of central and eastern Kentucky…

The pattern warms up in a hurry as we end May and head into the first couple of days of June. It may get toasty on a couple of days with the threat for a summertime storm or two going up.

The pattern continues to look like one that turns much cooler after that. It’s pretty awesome to watch the big heat ridge developing across the Plains retrogress all the way northwestward into western Canada. That allows a trough to take control of the eastern half of the country…

It’s fun to watch pattern retrogression and is something weather loves should take note of. Patterns don’t always move from east to west. 😎

Here are your radars to follow along…

Make it a great Saturday and take care.
