Good Monday, everyone. Severe weather has been slamming the region for much of the past week but things are slowly calming down. This means better weather for the 4th of July before we go right back into a stormy setup later this week into the weekend.
As expected, the most widespread severe weather of the recent event hit the region Sunday. Wind damage was fairly widespread and my Twitter feed has the full recap of the severe storms…
The cloud shots are amazing to see.
Some areas of the state also picked up more than 5″ of rain on the weekend and that includes Lexington. Yowza.
A few leftover showers and storms will be possible today but much of the region is dry with temps in the 80s. Here are your radars to follow along with whatever else is out there…
The 4th of July looks pretty good with temps in the normal 80s and the small chance for a shower or storm going up.
Showers and storms will then increase later Wednesday and into Thursday as a cold front drops in from the northwest. That brings the chance for a few strong storms with it. More storms will then fire up over the coming weekend.
Here’s how the EURO sees this…
And the GFS for the same period…
The weekend storms are part of another trough swinging through the region and into the eastern half of the country into next week…
Ok, that’s all you kids get for now… Your friendly weatherdude has been wall to wall for much of the past week and change.
Have a great 3rd of July and take care.
Most of the time when you video a storm it never does it justice… It always looks and feels so much worse than the camera can capture….
Thanks Chris for all your hard work, and alerting all of the severe weather in the area. My area of the state escape the bouts of severe weather this past week compared to the Lexington area. We had only 1.69 inches of rain, which accumulated through waves of brief heavy showers. I’m hoping that in the following weeks the threats of severe weather will cease, and we have our typical Summertime weather pattern.
Fall and Winter is not that far off. After mid July I focus on what may be ahead as far as temperature and precipitation. With the possibility of an El Nino event, this Fall and Winter could be interesting for Snow Lovers.
Finally got much needed rain here in my neck of woods, but had to deal with hail twice some were golf ball size lucky didn’t damage my car.
As of July 2nd, we been living here in Maple for 15 years, and have never seen any hail stones. Good thing as we have a metal roof.
Thanks for having our backs, Chris! Hopefully you can now enjoy some of the holiday weekend with your family!
Happy Independence Day, everyone!
Here is the link for the complete summary of Sunday’s significant rainfall and flash flooding event that occurred across the Chicago Metro Area. O’Hare Airport received 3.35 inches, shattering the previous record for the date of 2.06 inches set in 1982. Midway Airport received 4.68 inches, and the NWS Forecast Office in the SW Suburbs 2.60 inches.
As heavy as those amounts were, the heaviest rainfall occurred just to the west of Chicago, where Berwyn and Cicero both received over 8 1/2 inches!

A very detailed report on the flooding rains in the Chicago area. Thanks for sharing Mike. Drought was most likely destroyed by the heavy rain event for the rest of the year.
I am happy that we all received some badly needed rain.
The forecast for July isn’t bad so far. Below normal temperatures with a hint of rain from time to time.
I hope it plays out that way.
Happy 4th to everybody.

I’d love some heat myself.
I was just out for a walk and it’s not that hot, compared to what we could have in July. At the present it’s 81 degrees and partly Sunny.
I got my yard work done today. No complaints. 😉
