Good Wednesday, everyone. It’s a special day for Kentucky Weather Center as we celebrate our 15th birthday!! On our big birthday, we are tracking the threat for strong to severe storms across parts of the Commonwealth.
July 5th, 2008 was the first full post on Kentucky Weather Center…
I can still remember having a friend proofread that first post before I hit the publish button.
15 years later, this marks post number 8,363 and that averages out to 558 posts per year. KWC has seen a lot in its 15-year lifespan, and it continues to plug along with 10s of millions of visits each year. The amount of traffic this site gets increases from one year to the next and I’m grateful to all of you. I’ve always said you’re the backbone of what we’ve established here, and I couldn’t do it without you.
I do have some bigger plans for KWC in the works and that includes a Youtube channel: https://youtube.com/@Kentuckyweather
Give it a subscription if you like. I’ll be getting it off the ground here over the next few months. 😎
Ok, back to the actual weather. We have a cold front rolling toward the region today and it’s bringing thunderstorms along for the ride. Some of the storms across the western half of the state could be strong or severe. Here’s today’s Severe Weather Outlook from the Storm Prediction Center…
A better threat for showers and storms will overspread the region on Thursday with a lingering shower or storm into Friday…
Our window between systems looks smaller today than it did with my last update. Rounds of showers and storms sweep across the state this weekend and take us into Monday…
Locally heavy rains and strong storms will be possible with this setup. Temps will once again stay tame and go back to below normal as that upper low spins in through the first part of next week. As it moves away later in the week, clusters of storms look to return…
I will update as needed later today. I leave you with the Wednesday edition of your storm tracking tools…
Have a great Wednesday and take care.
Congratulations Chris! I don’t even think I had a “smart phone” back in 2008! LOL! Thank you so very much for ALL that you do! You used to be our local friendly weather dude here in Charleston, WV and as soon as I found your blog here I started following: Lexington is close enough for the weather information to still be useful to us here, and I get to keep in touch with you to boot! I am a meteorology major “wash out” (couldn’t handle all of the required calculus) and I have learned so much from you here as a hobbyist. So thanks again for all of your sleepless nights and hard work. You are truly someone special in both the weather world and an outstanding human being!
Time flies! Wow Chris… that’s a LOT of posts.
And remember… At some point you left Lexington for Huntington WV.. I forget how long you were there..but you continued the blog anyway…
Thanks Chris. Congratulations on the success of your Blog, and Happy Birthday KWC !!! I joined in on KWC many years ago. Loved it every since, and have learned a lot.
Maybe the weather will settled down to a more typical mid to late Summer weather pattern, and we can focus on the coming Fall and Winter ?
Chris, many thanks for all you do for us. I hope you are able to keep blogging for many more years.
Blessings on you and your family.
Sincerely,
Steve
Congratulations and thank you for your hard work on this site, Chris! It is my go-to every morning when I wake up!
Thanks,
Phil
Congrats I have made a trip to your site everyday since the winter of 2009.
It was a strange day yesterday for me I had to deal with two different bouts of rainfall .
It was upsetting because I had just sprayed herbicide over my lawn. I thought I was good to go the forecast for rain was only 20%.
Happy Birthday KWC!! One way to gauge how important this blog is to me, is it’s the first site I check in the morning, and the last site I check at night. Keep up the good work, Chris, and get the station to buy you a bigger server!
Right now at my PWS near Bowling Green, temperature is 87°F, the dewpoint is 76°F and the heat index is 98°F.
Looks like I picked the wrong day to do yard work
Happy Birthday KWC. I think I have followed from the start. I appreciate your devotion hard work and sleepless nights. You always say sleep is overrated. I appreciate our weather family and enjoy everyone’s post.
Happy Birthday KWC!!!
I’ve been following KWC since 2015 (and commenting since 2020) and find it very interesting to compare the similarities and differences in the Chicago area weather to the Kentucky weather.
CB does a great job using the various computer models to show what type of weather might occur in the near future, and it’s always interesting to look at the success and failure rates of the different models.
Happy blog-iversary, Chris! You’ve been the best source of weather information for even longer and am excited to see what happens in the future.
As to the weather, this pattern will eventually break and we will likely have backloaded heat but hopefully not too dry. It won’t be tame forever.
Congrats! I’ve been following you now for 12+ of those 15 years! Great to have a WX blog that focuses on our area!
Happy Birthday Ky weather center! I love your blog, rain or shine, and especially your ‘pot o’ chili’ alerts!
