Good Wednesday, folks. We continue to enjoy a blast of mid-September temps here in the middle of August. Pleasant temps and awesome skies look to continue through the rest of the week into the start of the weekend. After that, heat makes a run at us but the potential for it to be short-lived is looking better by the day.
Temps this morning are into the 50s for many with afternoon highs in the mid and upper 70s in the east with upper 70s to low 80s west. A mix of sun and clouds will be noted and there’s the smallest chance for a shower to go up in the east.
Thursday starts in the 50s again with upper 70s to low 80s for the afternoon. Southwest winds will increase ahead of another September cold front dropping in from the northwest. This arrives Thursday night with a narrow band of showers and a rumble of thunder…
This is another shot of awesome air with upper 70s and low 80s for Friday afternoon after starting the day with temps in the upper 50s. Saturday morning will be downright cool again with mid 50s…
Saturday is another VERY nice weather day so make plans to enjoy it.
By the time we hit Sunday, heat starts to make a run at us but the seasonal trend is already showing up. As you know, this has been a tame temperature summer with heat largely staying away. Every time it makes a charge at us, a trough comes in and cuts it off at the pass.
Low and behold, we know have some models doing that pretty darn quickly. A cold front may very well show up by Monday night and put an end to anything steamy with additional troughs likely showing up through next week.
Even the GFS is on board with a DEEP trough…
The Canadian Model has a very similar look…
That’s a chilly look around here and for the eastern half of the country!
We are getting into the time of year where the tropics end up having the final say on the overall pattern across North America. I suspect we will see several systems developing in the next few weeks. The National Hurricane Center continues to watch the two systems in the Atlantic and have added an area in the Gulf of Mexico…
Have a wonderful Wednesday and take care.
It hasn’t been tame in my book.
No complaints from me.
The rest of August looks Hot and Dry ( 70 to 80 % probability ) just depends how far East the Ridge gets. This time of the year I like to focus my attention on how our Autumn months will unfold weatherwise, Could be interesting with the possibility of El Nino beginning to make his appearance and influencing our Atmosphere. If this happens sooner it will cease Tropical cyclone activity in the Atlantic and Gulf. NOAA says however, over the rest of the season it will be above normal activity in the Atlantic. The Pacific on the other hand this week has had increased Tropical Storm activity. Interesting.
Enjoy the nice, rare break in our weather the next few days. No complaints here either. we may be complaining about the lack of rain though in the next two weeks.
Well….we pretty much know that if there is tropical/hurricane activity going on in the Atlantic, it pauses our weather. This also happens with activity in the gulf but that gulf activity is more likely to send moisture this way.
Question: Why did the Mesonet add another station in Fayette county? I’m curious
Mark, here’s an article I found on the new Mesonet site on the North side of Lexington near the University. It explains why it was built. To alert more area on severe weather and so forth……

I like the tame summer we been having.
In El Nino Autumns of the past ( 1976 ) we had beautiful, clear cool days to start with in September, followed by a lot of frosty mornings, and hard freezes ending the growing season early. Our first Snow was in November. Will this replay this year ? Don’t know. Now we are facing a potential heat wave at the end of meteorological Summer. Hoping the heat wave won’t happen, and we continue the tame temperatures until the end of the month.
It’s not really been tame.
No complaints from me either Chris. I have enjoyed this weather. I just wonder how interesting it might get or not lol this winter??
It’s all dependent on what E l Nino does, but I hoping for a more interesting Fall and Winter than what we been having these last several years. If NOAA comes out an gives their probable long range forecast for Fall and Winter saying ” Colder and Drier ” then we will see more Snow than we have in a long time.

Omit one of the above please. Darn computer. I can’t understand why we can’t make computers here in the United States and everything else too ???
