Cooler Temps Move in as We Watch the Gulf

Good Sunday to one and all. Our cold front is finally pressing to the south and that’s allowing for cooler and drier weather to take control. This continues into the first of the week before a likely Gulf hurricane becomes the center of attention and the number one influencer of the pattern.

Temps today range from the upper 70s to low 80s for many. Skies will feature a mix of sun and clouds with the chance for a shower or thunderstorm across the south and southeast, especially. Here are your radars for the day…

Temps around here will reach the 50s in several locations over the next couple of mornings with afternoon highs staying normal to a bit below. There’s still the chance for a shower or storm to go up, especially in the south and east. The Future Radar from the Hi Res NAM shows this action increasing Monday night and Tuesday morning…

Everything from this point hinges upon what will become Hurricane Idalia in the eastern Gulf of Mexico. This storm is going to be a problem for Florida and it’s currently getting its act together…

Here’s the latest information and forecast cone from the National Hurricane Center…

That forecast is essentially the forecast from the Hurricane Models…

The GFS Ensembles are correcting toward this solution…

In addition to this storm, we have Hurricane Franklin likely staying well off the east coast…

Looking beyond this burst in the tropics, the pattern back here can get pretty darn toasty through the first half of September. Summer sizzle didn’t really arrive until this past week and it looks like it wants to work a little overtime into the start of Meteorological Fall. This includes your Labor Day Weekend, so plan accordingly.

Enjoy your Sunday and take care.

Schroeder ……….hope you’re ok… You almost never go this long without posting…

anyway….we finally got 2 different rains here… I wouldn’t exactly call it storms…just some wind and heavy rain… and I wasn’t expecting any rain yesterday but we got it again…brief…but really good while it lasted….yard is already greener.

The tropics are going to keep our weather BORING (watch and see) UNLESS one of the storms remnants move over us…otherwise it will be boring. I’ve seen it over and over and over. Plz… No more heat

Thanks Mark. The last few days I been reading yours and other comments and totally agree, so I decided to give myself a break by just reading the comments. I really have nothing to add what is going on with our weather currently.

Sorry everyone for the Duplicate. This new computer is not working very well for me. I don’t know how to fix a new computer when it doesn’t wants to function properly. By the way, my Air Conditioner decided to give out on the hottest day of the Summer, so I have to deal with that.

    Ok..good to hear you’re OK and I get it…

about the HVAC… I have a short story because I’m bored: Do you use those thick MERV filters? Everyone’s HVAC is different so I’ll share in case this could possibly be it.

Moved into this house in 2004 (brand new) it came with a Trane XR 11 all electric heat pump (which I still have).. The first five years everything went wrong with it…I think it sprung a leak on the outside part because of a vibration and the HVAC guy fixed that… then a capacitor went out… then the COMPRESSOR DIED…but the compressor was under warranty but the labor wasn’t…

I always change the filters regularly….but they were the higher MERV filters… I started using those cheap filters after the compressor was replaced (I think I read something online about using those cheaper filters being easier on the HVAC system) and the ONLY thing wrong that’s happened in all of the years after that is a couple of capacitors went out and one time the condensate drain got clogged… I think those high MERV filters were too restrictive and causing all kinds of issues…I only came to that conclusion because all the problems mostly cleared up after I started using those…

My brother scolded me for using those he said the A coil would be filthy if I used those…I took a picture of the A coil and he said it looked really clean… I do vacuum the filters about once a week between changes..

It’s such a bummer when AC goes out… I literally panic when that happens! And it’s such a HUGE expense on top of that usually.

I use whatever Lowes or Walmart has in the way of Filters and change the filters every three months. I have to buy a new furnace and Heat Pump. Going to be quite an expense. Don’t know what is the best. This one I had for fifteen years with no problem, and it is a Goodman Heat Pump and furnace.

I know i am going to be getting a heat pump soon too. Had mine too many years. I have a feeling we still have some heat left in September maybe October who knows??

    I am still without power.
This marks the 5th time this year.

I know that problem very well after the 2009 Ice storm. I was all set in getting a whole house generator, but I don’t have Natural Gas and the salesman said that Propane Gas burns too hot for the generator. I couldn’t afford the generator anyway. I bought a Storm Responder generator and it works fine during short power failures. I tried to get my Power Company to just bury their lines, and their reply was it would be too expensive. Again putting money before lives.

The first rain in 13 days began about 30 minutes ago, and already 0.40″ has fallen.

      Glad for you, Joe!

I’ve been yapping about a backloaded summer all this time. 🙂

    • Schroeder

Yeah, I remember Jeff you saying ” it won’t be a tame Summer. ” Now we may have Summer in September if the Tropics hold this enormous heat dome in place ? Whatever happened to the El Nino we were suppose to have. I checked the Sea Surface temperatures off the coast of South America, just west of Lima, Peru and they were in the 60’s. Doesn’t look like El Nino to me. I asked NOAA this question and did not receive an answer. Should be called Don’t NOAA. LOL…… This is what happens when one just looks at the anomaly Sea Surface Temperatures and not the current temperatures of the Pacific. Maybe El Nino will form fully with a positive Pacific decadal Oscillation later this coming Winter. Don’t know.

Joe, we haven’t had any rain here in Maple for at least fifteen days. We just keep missing. Going to get less likely for rain in the coming days due to the Tropical activity now occurring.

It’s been a cloudy, gloomy day, but not the hot weather we had this past week. We had some rain today which amounted to 0.40 ” Local forecast for temperatures in the low to mid 80’s this week, but warming up again by weeks end. No rain in the forecast for the next 7 days.
