Good Tuesday, folks. We have a winter storm ready to blast the bluegrass state later this evening through early Wednesday. Today’s rain will switch to snow and a band of heavy snow is likely to set up across parts of the state as the storm works to our east.
This will be a day of more updates, so let’s hit the high notes…
– Heavy rain will push across the state today as temps spike well into the 40s.
– Low pressure will move just to our east this evening and that allows for cold air to work in here. Rain will quickly switch to snow during this time.
– A moderate to heavy band of snow will sink in here overnight and early Wednesday. Areas underneath this band will likely pick up on a quick hitting snowfall of several inches. Here’s a threat map for the heaviest snow:
– That doesn’t mean you will see 4″ of snow… it just shows the areas that has the highest potential to get that much of the white stuff. A general inch or two will be likely for much of our region, but the potential for a heavier band is something I will be watching for.
– Snow will taper off late Wednesday morning into the early afternoon hours.
Here’s the radar to track the mess…
Temps this weekend hit the low 60s. That’s a false start to spring… we have a lot more winter to go through. Check out the running 5 day departures after day 10…
Have a great day and take care.
Guess it’s going to be close (again) …………It is March, so you never know what this crazy weather will do :/
Mr. Bailey sounds more excited than usual and sounds like the Mr. Bailey when we used to have winter in KY.
I can’t believe I’m getting excited and my county is listed in the “low” chance of receiving the snow band or is that a “Swath”?
My county is slated for a general chance of 1″ of snow and we’re excited. Just goes to show what a weak winter we have had. Bring it….those snowboards we bought for Christmas have been used twice and even then the gravel ripped them pretty good. One inch will have to do!
It was a year ago that we had the most snowfall in my area. Maybe March is the new “winter month?” Interesting to see if the “dark side” of Old Man Winter makes a return. Hmmmmmm……
hey nobody can even predict the weather one or two days out and he’s talking about 10 days … anything could happen in 10 days, come on ….. one good thing jack, even if it snows 6 inches, the roads won’t get bad because there is so much salt on them from pre-treating for snow we never got !
In the low threat area (Knox Co.) Less than 1 inch on the year and doesn’t look good according to CB. Good luck to the rest of you. I’m ready for spring.
Most precipitation will fall for most of us while above freezing….. I think I just experienced deja vu….. 🙂
As usual, nothing to see here in WKY 🙁
Mother Nature, please let Old Man Winter come out and play just once this winter, then you can call him back in and let spring out. Whatcha say?
Louisville and points north and east look’s to be the sweet spot looking at some of the high resoultion HHR data later on this evening into the overnight hours there could be some pretty decent banding convective snows setting up for the folks in and around the I-64 corridor.
Anybody notice on the NWS home page, the giant hole in the Advisories and warnings in the middle of W.Va? Odd. I’m sure it has something to do with criteria…I havn’t clicked on the Charleston office yet so I don’t know, but I found it odd.
That’s our “donut hole”- the clouds always part when they cross over us here in Greenup County/River Cities area.
Although that one does extend quite a bit farther into WVa than I normally notice.
The ground is going to be above freezing and the temperature will not be cold enough to get the surface below freezing. For anything much to be on the ground, it would have to be a sustained heavy snow. Seems a set up for a final winter disappointment for a lot of folks, unless north of 64.
Just got a glimpse of some local mets in Louisville and what there saying in there blogs. Louisville will be going below freezing temps might fall to 28 degrees with wind gusts to 35 mph big concern in Louisville will be banding of snows that has a real legit shot of setting up around or even in the Louisville metro. Should be interesting for those folks in the Louisville/ southern Indiana areas. Snow acc 1-3, 2-4 with locally higher amounts if banding of snows do occur. Heck there borderline WSW. Lucky them.
Realistically anybody that is south of richmond and west of jackson most likely will not see any snow on the ground IMO 1-2 north of richmond and higher amounts in the higher terrains i hope i’m wrong as i have not received more than 2 inches of snow total this yr
What are your guys (and gals) predictions for eastern ky–in particular -around whitesburg and the pine Mtn area
I just looked at the NWS update map and it shows Lou and Lex firmly in a 2 to 4 inch snow……Be interesting to see what happens 🙂
Chris – maybe your reverse psychology is working……
Incidentally – does anyone else find it ironic that KY’s two largest cities both start with the letter L?
If Frankfort gets 2 to 4 inches tonight we will go above normal snow for the winter, who woulda thunk it? 4 inches would put us over 15in.
Yeah same for Lexington lol.
Frankfort 15, Lexington the same, Versailles 4 inches not including the fluff that never stuck the last 5 days. Go figure.
And Lawrenceburg into the list of towns that have hit the ten inch mark so far. 2-4 today would put me at 12-14 for the winter.
4 inches in Richmond would put us at… … 6 (at most!)
I think it will be very interesting most of central Ky tonight and tomorrow morning, the higher elevations around the border counties will do better than expected! Either way the warm temps for a few days around the weekend will be nice!
