Good Thursday and Happy Thanksgiving! Our big holiday looks to be in pretty good shape across Kentucky and this continues for a few more days before we change it up. Another storm system is on the way for Sunday and Sunday night. This one will bring chilly showers and a touch of winter with it.

On this Thanksgiving day, I want to start by giving thanks for each of you. As I always say, you’re the backbone of KWC and you are the reason I do what I do. It’s never been for me or about me… I just enjoy keeping you informed to the best of my ability and keeping you as safe as I can during bad weather.

Before we get into the forecast, let’s talk about the month of November, so far. Temps have been above normal for much of the country…

My number one analog for the winter ahead is 2009, so how did that November look through this same time period? Just about a spot on match…

December 2009 was meh for winter lovers, then January and February were rocking! Hmm

Ok back to the current weather for this Thanksgiving. It’s a battle of sun verses clouds and that fight has a big impact on temps. Areas where the sun is out hit 50-55. Areas that keep the clouds for the better part of the day will stay low and middle 40s.

Black Friday will feature a mix of sun and clouds with a big north-south temp gradient. Highs in the north are 40-45 and low 50s in the south. This sets the stage for a cold Friday night and Saturday morning with wind chills in the teens…

Clouds increase on Saturday ahead of our next system arriving on Sunday. This brings mainly a chilly rain to Kentucky with accumulating snow just north of the Ohio River. As this system passes through, some backlash flakes are possible Sunday night and early Monday. This is followed by cold air pouring in for the closing days of November…

Temps are frigid behind this for the remaining days of November.

Another big storm system likely moves in for the first weekend of December as the cold eases for a few days before it returns several days later.

I will get more into all that with the update later today. Have a Happy Thanksgiving and take care.
