Winter Weather Advisory Monday and Monday Night

Good early evening, folks. Our winter system dropping in here to start the week is still on track to deliver some light snow, snow shower and snow squalls to parts of the region. This is NOT a lot of snow by any means, but it may be just enough to cause travel concerns at times.

A Winter Weather Advisory is out for much of central and eastern Kentucky during this time…

Folks, this is a LOW END Winter Weather Advisory but kudos to the NWS (except for Charleston, WV 🙄)  for being proactive as the small events sometimes are the ones that cause the issues as they catch people by surprise.

The future radar from the HRRR shows the increase in light snow, snow showers and even a few snow squalls Monday afternoon and evening…

There’s enough instability to fire up some decent snow squalls Monday afternoon, especially in the east. These squalls may put down blinding snows in pockets and that’s where we can briefly get in on some slick travel. The models even hint at some lightning showing up…

As mentioned, this isn’t a lot of snowfall and that was evident by my First Call for Snowfall last night…

I’ll have an updated version later, but I don’t anticipate many changes.

The short range models show the streakiness of the snow squalls in the snow forecasts…

Much of any sticking would be on grass and elevated surfaces, but these squalls can briefly cause some slick spots in a few areas. A few more slick spots will be possible Monday night and Tuesday morning.

Winds are also a big player on Monday. Check out the gusts from the HRRR…

Wind chills drop into the teens Monday afternoon and evening and may bottom out around 10 or so by Tuesday morning.

I will have another update later this evening. Until then, let’s track any shower that’s out there…

Enjoy the evening and take care.

Thanks Chris. Maybe next time for my County of Taylor. Last Winter I didn’t even see a Flurry of Snow. If memory serves, in late January 2021 we had 8 inches of Snow. I took a picture of our home in the Snow and now it’s hanging in my living room. I hope that the areas in the path of the Snow receive more than expected, and I will have some weather cams to look at tomorrow.

    Enjoy the Evening
