Good Monday and Merry Christmas, everyone. On this special day, we have rain and wind dominating the weather across Kentucky as we continue to look ahead toward a winter pattern. This settles in later this week and may kick into high gear into the start of the new year.
Waves of rain are spiraling into the region as a big storm system slowly moves into the Mississippi River Valley. Winds are also cranking to between 30mph and 40mph at times and that continues through tonight.
Here are your windy and wet Christmas radars to follow today’s dose of nasty…
Leftover showers linger across central and eastern Kentucky Tuesday as colder air presses in from the west. Before all is said and done, many areas will pick up a half to one inch of rain.
Much colder air continues to move in Wednesday and takes hold for Thursday and Friday. This comes from an upper level low that’s likely to bring light snow and snow showers with it Thursday and Friday.
There’s the chance for a small area to pick up on some hit and run thumping wet snow under and near the track of the upper low. Here’s how the GFS sees this upper low…
Notice how it has a band of snow wrapping up around this thing as it spins across our region…
The Canadian isn’t as wound up with the upper low but brings in a wider area of light snow with another light snow maker diving in behind it…
A New Year’s clipper may follow all that up…
The blocking showing up in early January is pretty prolific on the EURO Ensembles. Check out the block over Greenland hooking up via the North Pole route with the block over Alaska…
This type of pattern can turn really cold with winter storms traversing the country…
Merry Christmas and take care.

Merry Christmas weather friends! And thank you Chris for always keeping us updated!
This will go down as the second warmest Christmas ever in the Chicago area, as it’s currently 58 degrees at O’Hare Airport, but rain is on the way.
Enjoy the rest of your Christmas Day!
