Good Sunday, everyone. A winter storm will impact our weather over the next few days, with northern Kentucky feeling the initial brunt. This is the part of the state that will be dealing with the heaviest snowfall later today and tonight. Some areas in the far north have the potential to pick up several inches of snow during this time.
The rest of the state will see accumulating snow beginning later tonight and lasting through Monday and into Tuesday.
Let the maps do the talking…
What does all that look like in terms of snowfall through Monday morning? Here’s a fresh call…
Keep in mind there is likely to be a pretty sharp gradient showing up across northern Kentucky this afternoon into the early evening. That will have a major impact on exactly where the ” a lot” vs. “some” snow lines set up. For the rest of the state… a slushy accumulation on grass and elevated surfaces should do the trick.
Widespread snow and snow showers will kick in for Monday and last into Tuesday. My forecast for that remains the same as earlier, but I will revisit those numbers later today…
Winds will be cranking over the next few days. Gusts of 35mph will be common.
I will get you some tracking tools and a final call for snowfall later today. Have a great Sunday and take care.
Looks like a slushy cold mess, go away winter! You still can’t produced a decent snow, I’m ready for WARM weather, Mother Nature Get over your bad mood please!!
Look I know spring warm weather has to be on the way sometime…lets get looking toward that
I’m curious about the core of cold air with the center of low pressure. Any moderate liquid precipitation falling will transition to heavy wet snow. Despite a wet, relatively warm ground, the heavy wet snow should happen overnight, allowing surface temps to cool quickly. I even think Louisville’s roadways could become slushy by rush hour tomorrow morning if the snowfall rates stay heavy enough.
Snow snow go away, come again some other day…. Like, November or December of this year, please. Sounds like a big mess to me. Thanks, Chris. Well, hopefully soon. Hope we don’t go straight from winter to summer.
Don’t worry it won’t amount to much Coffeady
You guys are saying snow go away…..I’m saying RAIN go away!!!!!!
Me too!
It never ceases to amaze how these “winter storms”
end up being a coating to 1″. Depressing…
waited all week for ‘an inch’…….wow…
Looks to me like most precip going north of KY right now. Central IL and IN looking to get the best stuff. AS USUAL, not for us! 🙁 Am so tired of the snow teases for us. Western KY can’t buy a decent snow!
The header should be titled Tracking Another Dismal Forecast.
From NWS Paducah:
.UPDATE…
ISSUED AT 1050 AM CDT SUN MAR 24 2013
HAVE UPDATED THE FORECAST TO PUSH BACK THE ONSET OF ACCUMULATING
SNOWS…AND TIME THE SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS WITH SOME SLEET/HAIL
POTENTIAL EASTWARD ACROSS THE AREA THROUGH EARLY AFTERNOON…AHEAD
OF THE SNOW.
THE 12Z NAM AND GFS BOTH TAKE THE UPPER LOW ON A PATH FARTHER
NORTH ACROSS THE AREA…SOMEWHERE IN THE VICINITY OF HIGHWAY 13
ACROSS SOUTHERN ILLINOIS. OBSERVED SURFACE 3 HOUR PRESSURE FALLS
INDICATE THAT THE SURFACE LOW WILL FOLLOW A SIMILAR PATH. BOTH OF
THESE TRENDS CAST SOME DOUBT ON THE ADVISORY AND POSSIBLY EVEN THE
WARNING THIS AFTERNOON AND EVENING.
HAVE ADJUSTED THE GRIDS TOWARD THE NEW REALITY…BUT WILL NOT
MAKE ANY DRASTIC CHANGES TO THE HEADLINES AT THIS TIME. WOULD
PREFER TO WAIT UNTIL THE OBSERVATIONS REALLY MAKE IT OBVIOUS
BEFORE GIVING UP ON ANY PORTION OF THE ADVISORY.
Chris brother man I think we can cancel the tracking toys on this one ;).
