Good afternoon, everyone. A few flakes and arctic light snows continue across the region as bitterly cold air keeps control. The air tonight looks dangerously cold with below zero temps and wind chills that will be even colder than that. Oh, we also continue with our late week Winter Storm THREAT.

Here’s a breakdown of the current bitter cold:

  • Temps this afternoon stay in the teens with wind chills from 5 to -5.
  • A few snow showers and flurries will be noted from time to time.
  • With a snowpack and clearing skies tonight, temps will plummett.
  • Lows range from -7 to +5 across much of the state. There’s the chance for some cold valleys in the east to reach -10.
  • Wind chills from -5 to -15 will be common. -20 wind chills can’t be ruled out in the east and southeast at times.
  • Frozen pipes and power outages are possible.

I have no changes to the Winter Storm THREAT from Thursday through Friday night…

At first glance, this gives me the look of a fairly widespread 2″-6″ of snow for much of the region. Of course, my vision can be a little fuzzy from time to time.

I like what the GFS and Canadian Models are doing with this system…

Another blast of bitterly cold temps come in behind this system for the weekend. Lows below zero are possible once again with wind chills that will be much, much colder.

I’ll have an update on WKYT-TV starting at 4pm and then again on KWC later this evening.

Make it a great evening and take care.
