Good Friday everyone. Halloween weekend is here and mother nature has decided to dress up as old man winter. The eastern half of the state has the potential to see the first flakes of the season tonight and early Saturday. A light accumulation will be possible for a few areas.

We have been talking about this possibility for more than a week now as the weather pattern is straight out of the heart of winter. A major low pressure is going to develop across the south today and turn the corner and head up the east coast over the weekend. This may bring an historic early season snowfall to parts of the mid atlantic states into the northeast.

Things get started today as light rain develops across southern Kentucky and spreads northward into the afternoon and evening. It now appears much of the state will get in on some light rains before all is said and done. Here is a rough outline of what to expect today…

The heaviest rain will be across the south and east. Temps today are going to be held way down for most areas. Highs will stay near 40 across the steady rain areas and warm toward 50 in the far west and northwest.

Our low pressure will deepen across the Carolinas late tonight into Saturday morning. Colder air will continue to filter into our region and this will cause the rain to mix with and even change to snow for some areas. The best chance of seeing flakes will be across the east and southeast where a slushy accumulation is possible. Here is an early call on our first flake chances…

I will fine tune that map with an update coming later today. Whatever you see early Saturday morning will quickly scoot away by the afternoon as the storm pulls east.

This is an incredible pattern and it’s going to the extreme once again. That is a common occurrence and one I see continuing into November and the winter ahead. Buckle those seat belts.

Let’s track the action moving in…

I will have more updates later today. Have a great Friday and take care.
