Good Friday evening and welcome to the weekend. We are starting the weekend off with a touch of March weather. Temps are mild, winds are cranking and showers are on the move. This is all ahead of a monster change as we roll into the new year.
Some thoughts on “the change”.
– Front number one arrives on Sunday with a couple of showers, gusty winds and falling temps. Highs will be in the 40s early in the day and will crash into the 30s from west to east.
– Some flurries and light snow showers will dance around Sunday night.
– The real push of arctic air arrives Monday as a strong disturbance pushes in from the northwest. This will cause widespread light snow to break out with the best chances across the central and east. The NAM simulated radar is just now picking up on this…
– Northwesterly winds kick in by Monday afternoon and continue into Tuesday. This will pick up moisture off the Great Lakes to enhance the upslope flow. Widespread snow showers and squalls should be the end result.
– I do expect some accumulation for many areas with the potential for a nice little snowfall across the east and southeast.
– Winds will gust to 20mph or higher during this time and that means some blowing powder and very cold wind chills.
– Highs Monday and Tuesday will stay in the 20s with lows in the low to mid teens by Tuesday morning.
The European Model shows the frigid blast…
Back to the “now”… let’s track some March showers.
Have a great evening and take care.

Wow, were days away from our first real winter forecast and it’s now “expecting some accumulation”, I ‘ll take anything at this point!!
chris is messin with us. I wonder what nice little snowfall means 😉
I would say it only means a range of a coating to 2″
Nice (little) snow fall means east KY upslope of 1or2 inches. Central KY never gets more than a few flakes out of these setups. But, congrats to anyone in KY that sees it :)!
tyler and todd i could see a possible 2-4 inches where these squalls will be more amplified for e an se ky
as the words of an Aerosmith song goes …. DREAM ON !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
SE KY might see flurries and that’s a big might.
tx for making my comments not look so stupid CHRISD, saying 24 inches for SE E KY mondy thru wed morning. as some said u and i was nuts, wqant name ant names but they said NOWAY WE GET UPSLOPE THIS WEEK.lolllllllllll
I would say it only means a range of a coating to 2″
The closer you are to the slopes, well yeah more will be there. I was just taking a stab at what he might be thinking!!
didnt mean to sound harsh lol
I didn’t think it seemed harsh at all!!
North Eastern Ky. would be my guess that receives the monster accumulation from this semi-generic snow event. Enjoy your two inch snowfall.
Notice CB is not going near mentioning how much? That suggests at absolute best an ankle biter, but perhaps a sole skimmer for many.
All depends on timing and how much moisture draws south.
It is not just KY experiencing the low snow outlook and trend.
small hail falling here in Leslie County,
I think Chris knows we are all foaming at the mouth lol and is being conservative. I would say 2 being the max because the ground is too warm unless the cold is here for over 24 hours before the snow squalls begin. Just my opinion though 🙂
Your snow scale is very accurate for KY winters, how about a bumper duster??
flow is more northerly now on 00z NAM which would be more favorable for snow showers Monday into Tuesday.
LOL,thunder and lighting in my neck of the woods right now…Weird weather indeed…When winter breaks lose look out…
This won’t amount to much but I do expect to see some flakes flying Sunday evening. I hope to see it snow as much as the next person but until I see Chris start talking “winter threat mode” I try not to get to excited. haha
I will take a skiff, an inch, or a foot! It will be January soon and January = snow.
boy we had a major hard rain come thru here around 8:30 this eve. Been windy all day. Now I am ready for winter and SNOW!!!!
