Good Friday and Happy Kentucky Oaks Day! We have a scattering of showers and thunderstorms rolling across the region today, kicking off a stormy pattern that takes us through much of the next week or so.
The showers and storms out there today aren’t impacting the entire region at the same time, instead, we are seeing the scattered stuff that will impact many folks at different times. The showers and storms may increase a bit from the southwest later tonight, putting down some pockets of heavier rains.
Here are your radars to follow your Kentucky Oaks Day drops…
Kentucky Derby Day will feature another scattering of showers and thunderstorms working through the region with the greatest concentration in central and eastern Kentucky. While the chances for this action is greater across the eastern half of the state, the chance is there for a shower or storm to impact Churchill Downs at some point. The future radar from the HRRR is showing this chance well. This animation goes from 8am-8pm Saturday…
Scattered storms will then be noted on Sunday as the overall setup strongly skews toward waves of showers and storms rolling through the region next week and even into next weekend…
This setup is also likely to throw some strong or severe storms into the region. The EURO lightning forecast suggests our skies will light up on numerous occasions…
With a setup like this, some hefty rain totals may show up. Both the EURO and GFS are spitting out several inches of rain during this time…
The operational models and the Ensembles are still trying to bring another blast of below normal air in here behind this stormy setup…
No thanks.
Make it a great Kentucky Oaks Day and take care.
The cool won’t be much.
A very wet pattern.
Will there be another opportunity to see some frost?
Borderline maybe.
Usually after May 15th those frosty spring mornings are over, but in June 1993 we had a frost up in Indiana that damaged the corn crop.
Thanks Chris. It’s too bad the rain couldn’t held off until next week. We had a little over 0.30 ” this morning.
Have a safe and great afternoon everyone !
