Good Sunday and Happy Mother’s Day to all the moms out there. We are dealing with some really nice weather out there today as Mother Nature shines on this big day. Beyond this, rounds of showers and storms are set to impact our weather for the week ahead.
Temps today are in the 70s with a mostly sunny sky. Enjoy!
Clouds increase from west to east on Monday as low pressure rolls in from the west. This brings waves of showers and thunderstorms across the region from late Monday through Wednesday. This doesn’t have much in the way of a true severe look, but it is the season and we will stand watch as always.
Locally heavy rains of 1″+ will be possible during this time.
Check out this low working right on top of us…
Additional rounds of showers and storms will then move through here later in the week into next weekend…
This is the setup coming from the jet stream taking these big dips across the eastern half of the country. Periods of showers and storms can put down some hefty rain totals over the next week and change.
The EURO and Canadian Models are especially amped…
The control run of the EURO Ensembles is even more juiced up through the next two weeks…
Ample rainfall has been common, and as we’ve seen with recent posts, is expected to continue into the summer months ahead. Will the tropics play a part in our summer rainfall pattern? I’ll show you a possible connection with my next update.
Once again, Happy Mother’s Day to all our wonderful moms and future moms.
Make it a great Sunday and take care.
We won’t get that much rain this summer. The models are lying.
Didn’t we have the same prediction last summer? It certainly didn’t rain all summer. In fact, the gras quit growing and those who mow for a living were looking for other income streams.
Last summer’s weather pattern had a northwest theme to it.
Gulf moisture rarely got involved.
I would think logically if the summer weather pattern returns to its typical pattern for temperatures to be below normal we will need to see a lot of overcast days.
Right, we didn’t have Gulf moisture last year. The El Nino we were suppose to have behaved more like La Nina last Fall and Winter. We are suppose to phase into ENSO / neutral, but the PDO says different holding at negative 2.09 reading. That’s La Nina.
Last year we ( Tayor county ) had much less rain in the Spring and Summer. At years end we recorded a little over 40.00 inches.
No not lying, Jeff. They just don’t know.
Thanks Chris. Very nicely said. ” UGH ” on the rainfall totals forecast for the Summer !
Everyone enjoy this Beautiful Mother’s Day.
Here is a summary of the severe weather parts that hit parts of the Chicago area last Tuesday with large hail and high winds. There was also a confirmed EF-0 tornado near the Wisconsin border. https://weather.gov/lot/2024_05_07_Severe
It’s a beautiful sunny day today with a moderate south breeze and temps on the way to 80 degrees later on.
