Good Monday, everyone. Today makes it three in a row with mornings in the 50s… In the middle of August. Our tame temperature of a summer rolls on this week with temps normal to a bit below. The big news is that the pattern is about to become very active once again.
Let us start things out with what’s going on out there today. Temps are back into the low and middle 50s with the chance for some upper 40s to show up in some of the cooler valleys. Highs this afternoon are mainly from 80-85 with low humidity levels once again. A spot or two may hang out in the upper 70s for the third day in a row.

Ernesto is developing in the Atlantic and heading toward the Carribean. This should become a hurricane in the coming days but looks to stay well out to sea as it turns north through the week. Here’s the latest information and track forecast from the National Hurricane Center…
The complicated scenario for the end of this week and into the weekend continues to clear itself up some. One slow-moving low along the east coast looks to steer Ernesto away from the country as another deep trough digs in here during the same time and hangs around into early next week…
This scenario brings a few showers and storms diving in here from the northwest by Thursday and Friday and some of those can put down heavy rains. Showers and some thunder would then stick around this weekend into early next week as this slow-moving system camps out over us…
That setup features above normal rainfall and below normal temps.
The longer range on the control run of the EURO Ensembles shows how the pattern tries to repeat itself with another upper level low as we get toward the final week of the month…

We have had many days well into the 90s for highs, which isn’t really tame.
Hopefully the 90’s days are over. Let Fall roll in.

He is speaking in terms of the forecasts from the major news sources that have been screaming HEAT this heat that all summer long. In Lexington we averaged almost exactly normal for the month of July and many days were below normal as well. In the sense of crazy heat waves that everyone has been screaming about yes it was very tame because we were dead on average for this time of year.
I have enjoyed the last couple days. I am not a fan of the heat especially into the 90’s and muggy. Bring on Fall I am really looking forward to it.
The transition to fall is nice, but I’ll always be a summer guy.
