Good Wednesday, everyone. A very early taste of winter weather was recorded across much of Kentucky Tuesday as a late November-like air mass continues. Freezing temps and frost are likely this morning through the end of the week.
The graupel on Tuesday technically goes down as a trace of snowfall as it is a winter precipitation type. That’s the 4th earliest date on record for Lexington to get a Trace of snowfall and was the 5th earliest for Louisville. Wow!
Take a look and listen from some of the graupel videos I got from this event…

That’s pretty impressive for October, especially this early in the month.
Temps out there this morning range from the upper 20s to low 30s, giving us a light freeze and a touch of frost. Winds this morning will make it feel even colder with some areas seeing a wind chill in the low to mid 20s. That’s winter coat type stuff, folks.
Highs this afternoon are in the 50s.
Clear skies and light winds set the stage for a hard freeze tonight for much of the state. Lows will drop into the mid and upper 20s for many areas. Afternoon highs hit the upper 50s and low 60s.
Friday isn’t as cold in the morning with low to mid 30s and frost. Afternoon highs are into the 60s with a gorgeous sky. That gorgeous sky continues into the weekend with temps warming into the upper 60s and low 70s with more in the way of awesome skies. This is another great fall weekend!!
Temps in the 70s show up early next week ahead of a front working in from the northwest. This can touch off a few showers and storms before knocking the temps back down…
Temps should spike again a few days later before what’s likely to be a healthy trough digging into the eastern part of the country. This may wind up being another setup similar to what happened from Sunday into Monday with a huge temp spike and drop…
The tropics are still fairly calm and I expect this trend to continue. The system rolling toward the Caribbean still has a chance to develop but I don’t see this as a threat to the US…
Have a wonderful Wednesday and take care.
Had our first frost here in western ky this morning. It’s been awhile we had one this early in October that I can recalled.
We’ll take the .19” of rain yesterday. Dew point at 34 and humidity at 99% this morning, but we never dropped below 34 degrees. But, it’s coming. Fall is definitely in full swing.
