Good afternoon, everyone. The first flakes and light snowfall of the season is on the way to central and eastern Kentucky over the next few days. This marks a healthy introduction to Old Man Winter.

Ahead of the flakes, we already have a Winter Weather Advisory out for several counties in far southeastern Kentucky…

I’m not really sure how the Advisory curves around Floyd County, though.

The overall setup remains the same with some snow showers and squalls developing and pushing across the central and east on Thursday with light to moderate snow arriving from the north Thursday evening. That’s when light accumulations show up. There’s also one more round of light snow and some light rain in eastern Kentucky later in the day on Firday.

The Future Radar from the Hi Res NAM shows all this well…

With all that, here’s the often imitated but never duplicated First Call For Snowfall…

Much of what sticks will be on the grass and elevated surfaces. I can’t rule out it snowing hard enough to briefly cover a road, but the ground temps are very warm so melting is the likely outcome.

The forecast models continue to be pretty consistent in terms of snowfall…

It’s the time of the year I like to use the RAP model because it does really well in the winter months. It’s pretty jacked up on snowfall…

I will have another update on the snowfall forecast coming later today. I’ll also have all your snow forecast goodies on WKYT-TV starting at 4pm… Live. Other stations in Lexington are now recording some newscasts hours earlier, so I have to put it out there that WKYT is live for every show.

I leave you with your tools to track today’s showers and crashing temps…

Make it a great day and take care.
