Good Tuesday evening, my friends. Showers have been working across parts of the state today as a storm slowly cranks up across the plains states. This means a busy next several days and I take a look at that and the general pattern for the next few weeks. Are we finally seeing pronounced changes? Looks like it.

A warm front will swing northeastward across the state tonight and will bring another round of showers. Those showers will be with us early Wednesday before we dry things out and mild it up. Readings may hit the low 60s during the afternoon.

Rain increases for Thursday as a cold front works in. Locally heavy downpours will be likely as temps remain in the 50s. Much colder air moves in by Friday morning as the front slows down. A wave of low pressure brings some chilly showers across the state… especially the southern half. Temps by Saturday may stay in the 30s for highs with a small chance for an early day rain or snow shower.

The storm next week continues to look like one that takes aim on the lower Ohio Valley or the Tennessee Valley by Tuesday and Wednesday. This is even showing up on the GFS now…

That’s rain to snow on the model and is similar to what recent runs of many of the other models have been showing.

That same GFS says hello White Christmas Eve…

Why am I now showing the GFS after trashing it for the past several days? It shows snow… DUH!!

Actually i’m showing it because it is matching up MUCH better with what the GFS Ensembles have been showing for a while now. Did someone say GFS Ensembles?

Take a look at the pattern for Christmas Weekend into the final week of the year…

You can see the colder than normal temps on top with the lower heights on the bottom.

Have a great evening and take care.
