Good afternoon, everyone. The forecast models are slowly seeing more and more of the light snow and snow showers on the way late this week into the weekend as a cold pattern settles in for the days leading up to Christmas.
Before we get to the winter portion of the forecast, we have another big time rainmaker set to roll across Kentucky. Another 1″-2″ of rain is on the way later tonight into Wednesday as showers and storms race through the region.
The future radar from the Hi Res NAM shows this well and also shows a few blue specks behind it all Wednesday night and early Thursday. Those specks would be some snowflakes…
Thursday morning flurries then taper off as we watch a clipper diving into the region from the northwest on Friday. Light snow and snow showers drop into central and eastern Kentucky from the northwest Friday and Friday night with lingering snow showers and flurries into the weekend.
The NAM only goes through 8pm Friday but it’s showing a nice swath of light snow and snow showers…
The GFS is doing exactly what we said it would do and is now beginning to show some light snow and snow showers from this setup…
The Canadian has been well ahead of the other models in seeing this and it continues to see it well…
Some light accumulations should show up across parts of central and eastern Kentucky during this time.
Winds are frigid over the weekend as this round of arctic air takes a swipe at us.
