Good evening, everyone. Heavy rain and thunderstorms is set to push across the region overnight into early Wednesday and may cause a few issues. Beyond that comes a much colder pattern with the increasing chance for light snow and snow showers.

Let’s concentrate on the heavy rain potential right out of the gate.

There is a Flood Watch out for areas of south central Kentucky tonight and early tomorrow…

To be honest, most of the state has the potential for local high water issues from this system. That’s especially true given this swath of heavy rain that may top 2″…

Temps are gonna be wild on Wednesday with southern Kentucky likely reaching the 60s at the same time the north may be in the upper 30s. Gusty winds are going to crank as the cold air crashes in from northwest to southeast.

Check out the wind chill forecast from 8am to 11pm Wednesday…

That colder wind would lead to a few snow flurries flying around Wednesday night and early Thursday. The Hi Res NAM is picking up on these flakes across central and eastern Kentucky…

I have no changes on the light snow and snow showers coming later Friday into Saturday. The latest short-range Canadian Model continues to show this well and even shows a connection trying to come from Lake Michigan in this animation that goes through 2am Saturday…

The NAM goes through the same time period and has a similar look…

And the GFS is now going all in on light snow and snow showers…

Are you shocked? Of course not.

I do expect some light accumulations for parts of central and eastern Kentucky.

Frigid temps blow in over the weekend with the chance for single digit wind chills to show up by Sunday and Monday mornings.

I will have a full blown update on this winter blast coming up later tonight. Until then, let’s track rain and storms into western Kentucky…

Make it a great evening and take care.
