Good Saturday to one and all. It’s a cold weekend before Christmas as a few flakes continue to fly for some areas. This cold won’t hold as a milder pattern develops for the final week or so of the year, but Old Man Winter is ready to stage a big return as we flip the calendar to 2025.

Temps out there today are mainly in the 30s with gusty winds making it feel colder. A few flurries and snow showers may fly from time to time across the east with the chance for a few flakes into central Kentucky.

Temps tonight drop into the upper teens and low 20s with the chance for a flurry or two in the east and southeast.

Temps start to come up late Sunday then kick it up some by Monday as clouds increase ahead of our next system moving in for Christmas Eve and Day. I hope Santa likes some showers as he slides into our region…

That’s not much rain, but just enough to make it damp.

Temps really take off after that with highs reaching the 50s and there’s even the chance for thunderstorms going up late next week or into the start of the final weekend of the year. This is ahead of a massive pattern change that will lead us into, what I believe, will be a harsh winter setup starting around the New Year.

The GFS Ensembles are going all in on this pattern…

This change to cold has been well advertised by the EURO Weeklies and they continue to look absolutely frigid for much of the country. Watch the blocking going up to our north with a deep trough developing underneath it across the US. This animation just shows the first few weeks of January…

The same EURO Weeklies are among the snowiest looks I’ve seen from them in years…

Remember, all this is the average of more than 100 members that make up the EURO Weeklies.

The new GFS Extended is also going big for January…

Another update or two comes your way later today. Until then, I have your tracking tools including our Kentucky Weather Cams to watch the flakes flying across different parts of the state…

Have a sensational Saturday and take care.
