Good Tuesday afternoon everyone. We continue to watch our mid week storm that is going to bring a swath of snow into the state. The storm track is pretty much set now as we did see this thing trend west from a few days ago.
Here’s a brief breakdown…
– A stalled out boundary is draped across the eastern part of the state and will slowly work eastward into Wednesday.
– Low pressure will develop along this front early Wednesday across the Carolinas and lift northward into Wednesday night.
– This will be a fast moving storm that starts out with rain early Wednesday before mixing with and changing to snow in the afternoon and evening as cold air wraps in.
– The best chance for accumulating snows will be across the eastern part of the state as this area will be closer to the low. That said… don’t be surprised to see some flakes flying all the way back into central and western Kentucky early in the day.
Here’s the first call…
– If we had a colder ground , I would probably go for a little more than what’s being shown. There will be quite a bit of melting and the best accumulations will be on elevated surfaces and in the higher elevations.
– This will be a very slushy snow that will fall in a 6-8 hour window for many.
– Temps by Thursday morning will dip into the 20s meaning some slick travel will be possible.
I will have updates as needed later today and will freshen up the snow forecast map as we get closer. I will send out quick updates via twitter, too. Have a great afternoon and take care.

I am not new to the site but this is the first time I have commented. I just have a question. I am fairly new to London and wondered if anyone could tell me if London is considered more SE or Central? THanks!!
THINK SNOW!!!!
Snake bit again in Central Kentucky…..Clark/Lexington area should see less than a dusting.
London is considered southeast Kentucky Jan. Also remember folks to LIKE Chris Baily on Facebook at http://http://www.facebook.com/pages/Chris-Bailey/197923513552724 and the NEW weather channel WeatherNation at http://www.facebook.com/weathernation also please share the pages
nws not much faith in this for snow, or accummulations. they think we will get mostly rain out of this. this is their forcast.
Wednesday: Rain, mainly before 4pm. High near 40. North northwest wind between 5 and 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.
Wednesday Night: A chance of rain and snow before 9pm, then a slight chance of snow between 9pm and 10pm. Mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly clear, with a low around 27. West northwest wind between 6 and 9 mph becoming calm. Chance of precipitation is 30%.
Lexington gets the shaft again ;-(
classic low east of the appa scenario…and dont worry they will track west of the apps too this winter! meaning 65 and rain in pikevill 36 and rain in lexington and a snowstorm for etown to covington! haha life!
Nada for me. Wasn’t expecting it anyway. EKY always gets the snow.
I believe the low will shift more west before all is said and done..I see a small ridge trying to build off the east coast which in turn should move the low more west…This is my thinking only and could be looking at the models all wrong…But sure hope the system would slow down and move more west…East Ky would then get almost an OLD SCHOOL..
Any ridge will be consumed by the sharp fangs of the very hungry Jefferson County Snow Dome. BUT, the analogue year thing Chris pointed out last month shows that maybe….just maybe, the Dome will meet its match.
Well the temperatures are going to be marginal. So Remember when Chris puts 1-3 or 3-6 that means the one or the three are just as likely, if not more than the 3 or 6.
What time do you think SE Ky will see the changeover from rain to snow?
DISLIKE, DISLIKE, DISLIKE…..I’M barely in the snow! GO WEST GO WEST GO WEST LOL
I’LL POST PICS ON FACEBOOK FOR YA CHELLE…LOL..YOU COULD ALWAYS TAKE A ROAD TRIP TOMORROW…:)
Welcome! And London is considered SE! I live in Williamsburg, so we are close!!
When saying east and southeast, does that count Johnson? I am thinking we are usually considered northeast but I could be wrong….I’m really wanting a snow day 😉
Might have to lol Looks like the roads will be clear and good for travel lol
No harm no foul anyway, since will not be around too long due to temps.
The REAL let downs come later after in a few weeks 😉 You folks should be savvy enough now to know we live in Fencetucky and approaching a decade and a half of trends to proove it.
Ankle biters or lower are our main specialty (more true, the closer to the center). Sure, we get near an average total for the year, but a bunch of mini events to get it 😉
My definition of a great winter no longer even considers big snows, but as long as no ICE- Great winter 🙂
ok time to get back to song of the day,
todays song is
RENO
by Doug Supernaw
it would be a great sUPRISE to see the low move farther west and slow down or even cutoff,
but we aint got thsat kinda luck round here. nice pipe dream though.
gotta like BAILEY tweets, DYNAMIC!! hey listen love HEAVY SNOW even if it all can stick but as we discussed in last thread it cxomes down like Bailey mentioning in tweet it going stick.
and he seeing more POWERFUL low on models sounds like by his comments as well.
I wonder why JKL hasnt issued those winter weather advisories yet??
spoke too soon but, they only issued them for pike, harlan, letcher, bell…blah…an elevation advisory!
if it CANT all stick, gotta love the great TYPER of ROLO THE REDNECK,
My first call came out earlier today, around noon.
NWS Jackson says WWAdvisory now for the areas I mentioned yesterday from Pineville to Pikeville.
good stuff MS. tx like reading ur post and ur detail cool too.
Love it! Everyone is posting. 🙂 I know I asked this earlier, but can someone tell me where Chris’ winter forecast it. I can’t find it. thanks

For the first time in my life, I do not want the snow.
Well, Owensboro is well out of any snow chance. That’s okay though, I wasn’t really expecting snow here anyway. For those who get it, enjoy!!!
Agreed Bubba. I’m through being optimistic. Chris’s line through Woodford County separating the haves from the have nots runs about 50 feet south of my front door. For some reason I-75 and 64 have unsolved scientific properties that defy explanation when it comes to accumulating snowfall. I will always hope for the best but expect the least. Deja vu in central ky.
Bring it north and a little west so we get more in Carter Co. I want a day off Thursday to go turkey hunting. 🙂 Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!
look ayt RADAR BLOWING UP south, im afraid heavier precip be gone before any switchover tomm, or this thing going be alot bigger than we think. radar blowing up at this hour due south.
nws jackson still not giving much snow for my area in clay county. they have changed it since this morning
Wednesday: Rain likely before 5pm, then a chance of rain and snow. Cloudy, with a high near 39. North northwest wind between 6 and 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. Little or no snow accumulation expected.
Wednesday Night: A slight chance of rain and snow before 7pm. Mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly clear, with a low around 26. West northwest wind between 3 and 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 10%.
not enough to write home about according to nws jackson .
man radar just exploded dowen south, its definte a VIGOROUS little storm cranking up.
