Tracking Light Snows and Another Potential Winter Storm

Good afternoon, everyone. Light snow showers and flurries continue across much of the area today with an increase coming later tonight and Wednesday. This is ahead of another Winter Storm THREAT Friday into Saturday.

The one good news I have is that the lingering light snows and clouds will keep our overnight temps from really getting out of hand.

The uptick in light snow tonight and Wednesday can put down coatings to a local 1″ for central and eastern Kentucky. The Hi Res NAM Future Radar continues to show this very well…

The Winter Storm THREAT continues Friday and Saturday for a major southern storm system. This will shut down areas of the deep south from Texas to the Carolinas. How strong does this low get and where does it track? How much interaction does it have with a northern stream system dropping into our region? The answers to those questions will determine how much snow we get here in Kentucky.

The GFS continues to show a moderate impact snowfall of several inches…

The Canadian Model is similar…

This storm is getting within the range of short-range models like the NAM and Short Range Canadian. The NAM isn’t very reliable until within 24 hours in most storms and you guys saw why with this last storm.

The Short Range Canadian, however, is pretty good from this range. This model is showing a slower and deeper storm system with more snow in our region. This only gets the beginning of the impact on our weather…

I’ll update all this on WKYT-TV starting at 4pm today and I’ll be back here on KWC later in the day. Until then, let’s track some Tuesday snow showers on our Kentucky Weather radars…

We actually had an hour or so of bright sun in Paintsville this morning, but nowhere near enough.

I have a question for Chris do you ever get a day off lol lol ??? I know you don’t sleep much either but neither do I. Thank you for all you do. I hope we get snow for everyone but we shall see.

My siblings in East Tennessee and Middle Tennessee are feeling “left out” of the winter snow. Looks that might change for them in a few days. Naturally, they’re scoffing on the one hand, yet mildly alarmed on the other. Checking their supplies in the pantry, not remembering that whatever they get will likely melt in a day or two.
