Good Sunday and Happy Father’s Day to all our resident weather dads. Scattered showers and thunderstorms will be on the move out there today as Mother Nature sends her well wishes to the pops. This action will slowly increase as we roll into Monday and Tuesday as a storm system works across the region.
Some of the storms today may be a bit strong, with gusty winds, torrential rainfall and LOL (Lots Of Lightning). Here’s regional radar to keep you company…
Rounds of showers and storms will take us into Monday and Tuesday with highs back in the 80s. Much of the state will see rainfall average between a half and one inch. Locally higher amounts of 2″ or more will certainly be possible.
That fits the trend of the year as we have no fear of drought and that’s a far cry from the dry soil of last year at the same time…
No areas of the state are even considered to be abnormally dry… that’s actually something we have in common with almost the entire eastern half of the country. Shhhh. 😉
We may try to set up another northwest to southeast storm event by the end of next week as a stab of heat makes a run at us…
That’s the look from the European Model and it does show the storm threat…
Make it a great Sunday and Happy Father’s Day. Take care.

Happy Father’s Day Chris, do you think those storms north and west of KY will go severe this afternoon? TWC has us in the red zone for severe threat in KY today!
Thanks Chris for posting the US Drought Monitor map for KY. And Happy Father’s Day.
Looks like the dry air is winning. As per usual.
The drought index can show what it wants and you can say what you want but here in Jefferson County it is bone dry. Everywhere you look lawns are turning brown, plants are wilting and trees are already showing stress. The ground is as hard as rock and has no moisture left in it. At nearly 3 inches below normal for the years and less than half an inch since Memorial Day weekendweek and temps running a good 5 degrees over the rest of the state, we are not far off from sliding into drought.
I think when the main official rain buckets get rain it over shadows the areas that miss out and become dry, this seems to happen every year!
I live in an area of Frankfort that seems to get less rain in the summer than surrounding areas so I understand your frustration!
The thing is, no one in Jefferson County has had rain in weeks and weeks. Brian Goode was talking the other day about how dry it is and how badly we could use some rain. I realize that most of the state has been pretty wet but the area from Louisville do wn to E-Town has been exceptionally dry.
Kelly did you get rain today? The radar looked like most of Jefferson Co. Got a good one??
I got .09 inches of rain but many parts of the city/county got almost 2 inches. I had a ton of lightening and thunder but little rain. It looks like you are getting in on some of the action.
Maybe a half inch, but looks like the heavy stuff slipped by my hood, maybe better luck in your area tomorrow ??
Believe it or not, there is a state outside of Jefferson County, so just because it is dry there obviously does not mean the rest of us need to worry.
Thanks Jeff for confirming that. You mean Jefferson County isn’t the whole state of Kentucky? Whooooaaaaah that information just blew my mind. Chill out Jeff.
Little Brother.
I was simply commenting that NOT all of the state is flush with rain as this post implies. As for knowing that there is a state out there, I know it from every paycheck I get when the other 119 counties bleed us dry as my taxes go to Frankfort but conveniently never make it back here. You’re welcome.
