Good afternoon, folks. Single digit lows were common across the region this morning with another round of frigid temps likely tonight before we catch a break for a day or two. That break is short-lived as another arctic air mass invades later this weekend into next week.

That one brings winter weather opportunities with it.

Speaking of winter weather, we have a few flakes that may move into parts of central and eastern Kentucky this afternoon. A lot of this now looks to hang just to our north and northeast, but a coating can’t be ruled out for some.

Temps tonight head toward zero again in some areas with wind chills even colder.

Another system drops in with the chance for some light snow and flurries Thursday. The future radar from the Hi Res NAM is picking up on the flake potential…

The setup for the weekend continues to feature an arctic front dropping in from the northwest with low pressure along it. Rain to snow continues to look like the most likely scenario on Saturday with another snow maker right behind that for Sunday and Monday. From there, we will watch for another storm system moving in with a storm threat by the middle of next week.

The GFS continues to edge farther north and west with this second system, which should be the trend…
